The Commissioners' Plan of 1811 established the street grid of the majority of Manhattan. In it, the blocks on the upper east side were the same length as the upper west, but Madison & Lexington Aves were built later, creating an incongruity.

It's the second day of the #30DayMapChallenge!

Some friends of mine got a new place in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. Coming from Park Slope, the walk between each avenue seemed so much longer.
