@jennycohn.bsky.social I mean, there were plenty of prominent and rich Jews in Germany in the 30's who were convinced they would be safe.
History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.
There are always collaborators, and the fascists always turn on them eventually.

*Well, at least we can enjoy it until we have to flee the country When the fascists move on from trans people and immigrants and start going after the Jews.

I like pretty things, and I like sparkly things, and I like things that exhibit artisanship, and I like things that are useful in addition to all of the above, I like things that to be _right_. Put all these together and it makes me inordinately #happy that the chandelier is now back to 100%.
I […]

And, finally, here is the finished product, with the replacement crystal installed and the shafts replaced.

This photo showing the old and new candle shafts side-by-side makes it extremely obvious why I wanted to replace them.

Here's the before and after of installing the replacement crystal on the upper level of the chandelier. You can see the gap in the crystals in the before picture that is filled in the after picture.

Here's the "before" picture showing the chandelier before I installed the replacement crystal and replaced the candle shafts. You can see how brown the old shafts are and if you look carefully on the top row of the chandelier you can see the spot where there's a big teardrop crystal missing.

3) "Hmm, why isn't the wireless charging mount on my bike charging?" -> take off seat -> discover that when I reconnected all the cables to the battery after Saturday's dead battery incident I missed one -> remove seat -> unscrew battery terminal screw -> add missing cable to screw -> screw it […]

@n0mql.com I mean how can a person possibly sleep on one of those metal slabs? They're so uncomfortable!

(The reason why I'm dealing with my wife's spam for her is because I've got a good Bayesian spam filter already set up on our mail server for me, and my wife doesn't want to have to deal with keeping a filter trained, so all email to her from unknown senders gets routed to me, and I either […]

In an ideal world I would spend time and energy tomorrow getting an answer out of the hospital about why my uncle was stuck in recovery for >5 hours, but I've got to conserve my energy, so I'm probably going to have to let this one go.
Perhaps somebody will post a clinical note in MyChart […]

Procrastination wins the day. I was stalling calling back the hospital to demand that someone locate my uncle because I didn't want to deal with it, and I just got a text message: "Patient is being transferred to an inpatient bed." That's after >5 hours in recovery. Given that the surgeon said […]

@ai6yr I think this requires me to revisit one of my greatest hits, the PaySource "Employer on the Go" app storing the user's username and password in a persistent cleartext browser cookie. 🤦

Note that I reported this issue to PaySource and […]

@ai6yr The fact that they list "associated passwords used to create user profiles for alerts" and say that people should change their passwords at any other sites where they used the same one, suggests that their password store was not securely salted and hashed, but rather was stored in […]

I especially enjoyed this NTSB video about the root cause of the Dali collision: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bu7PJoxaMZg
But just to be clear, don't assume that the entire newsletter is like this. It's got widely varying content that's all good. I can't possibly give you an idea of how […]
