The reality is there isn't a major SciFi ruleset for 5e (ignoring what Spelljammer was) from a larger publisher. For all the work Mage Hand did with their Dark Matter setting, Mongoose is in a better position to both create, test, and market a 5e competitor to Startfinder.

Maybe we'll get a Prototype 2 at this rate.

I think the moral of this evening is watch Shin Kamen Rider and The Guyver. Also, give Anno a budget.

Given that Shin Kamen Riders $16 million box office was seen as a success, let's make an assumption of probably a $8-12 million budget USD. When adjusted for inflation, The Guyver's budget seems way too close.

The Guyver Budget:
$2,000,000 for Mark Hamill
$999,996.50 for costumes
$3.50 for everything else.

I genuinely don't know if The Guyver, as a film, deserves the quality of 4K transfer it got compared to others. But, the folks over at #UnearthedFilms definitely put in some love and care for this dumb dumb movie to make a 3 million dollar film look as good as it does in UHD.

One day Anno needs to get a budget for something other than Godzilla. He managed to turn out entertaining intergenerational trauma and weightless anime fights that still hit harder than anything the DCEU churned out on what feels like an early 2010s Sony handycam and a copy of HitFilm.

There is something illegal about letting Hideaki Anno have fun, but I guess he's earned after being in Evangelion jail for 20 years.
