Hidden areas are dotted all over the map -- like this spoooky crypt. These areas are public (vs. private dungeons), so there's no telling who you'll run into.

Enemies in hidden areas may drop rare loot, or be much more dangerous than other enemies in the region...

Inspired by Runescape, the minigames in Spirit World allow you to engage in novel gameplay for rewards. In survival minigames, surviving as long as possible means more points!

Save up reward points to unlock unique/valuable items!

The Calmwood is a mostly peaceful place.......

I may have gone a little overboard with the enemies in this scene.

Updated the nighttime lighting system a bit. This bonfire is looking pretty good.

I can make lights any color I want now. Some of the magical forest areas are about to get very pretty at night.

Fighting enemies at night is oddly... peaceful.

Also, the nighttime lighting effect gives the hit indicators a strangely neon quality. That's a happy accident.

Is it weird that I worked on my game for three years before putting in a main menu?

Really liking how things turned out, especially the moving background. Because my game is all multiplayer, this was actually a pretty complicated (but very necessary) technical lift.

Anyone want to go for a walk? Loaded my new town map into my game for the first time last night. The aesthetics are so much better. Can't wait to see 60 players all running around in this scene at the same time. Still needs a bit of work, but this is serious progress!

Comparing an old town scene, from before I had created my map editor (and was laying out everything manually), versus the new version that I've been working on this week. It's amazing to me how much better the editing experience is now. Designing scenes is *fun*

Officially confirming that using the custom map editor I built to create my maps is extremely satisfying. The goal now: fill this town scene with as many decorations and ambience as possible.

Posting a little footage of the map editor I've been coding up for the MMO I've been developing for the past few years. Pretty excited about this progress. Takes ~4 minutes to build a fully working scene. Exports directly to the game.
