@secureblue.dev Any updates on this issue? I see they closed it, does that mean it’s fixed? Lol

I have been liking brave search lately. Search.brave.com

That’s fine, if that’s what you prefer. This is not something that is unique to Linux though. You would have the same issues if you were to switch to Mac also. Regardless of the OS there would be software and game that just wouldn’t work. There are trade offs that may or may not be worth it to you.

The only nuance to that is, that software that took 50 steps to get working on Linux most likely was written FOR windows, and shouldn’t work on Linux at all. The fact that it does even, if the process is tedious, is amazing!

To replace services that are “free” like anything Google, so you can regain control of your data. Self hosting a Homelab is a way to try to claw back some of your online privacy. Plus it’s fun, there are some really cool self hostable projects out there that you would never know about other wise

Depending on what your needs are I would go with Proxmox, been using it for years.

CachyOS is a gaming distro built on Arch Linux. Gaming distros, not unlike gaming computers, are powerful and a good option for everyone.

Nice, glad to hear it! I love Fedora as a distro and those two I mentioned take Fedora to a new level.

I love gaming distros, they are the best of both worlds. My favorites are Bazzite based on Fedora Silverblue, and Nobara based on Fedora workstation. Even if you don’t game they make great daily drivers.

Oh that’s disappointing that it’s not stable. I was really wanting to set that up and get off of OneDrive. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe they will figure it out soon. Are there any decent self hosted alternatives to Nextcloud?

I think this is one of the main reasons why people don’t stick with Linux long-term. Brands that people like, but that don’t support Linux cause frustration to the point that they just go back to Windows. I’d just rather not support a brand if they don’t support Linux also, where that is possible.

Yeah that’s a common complaint. I wish elgato supported Linux, but I dont think they have any plans to. Eventually the community may get them to work, but if you are planning to stay on this path you might be better off to just find an alternative that treats Linux like a first class citizen.

Nice! Glad to hear the day to day is going well enough to stick with it. I’m not a content creator but I know some use davinci resolve for video editing, and there are Linux alternatives for most things which you probably know already. Anyway, glad it’s going well!

What made you want to leave Proton mail? Good luck with Linux Mint, I have been a Linux user now for several years, and haven’t regretted it. There are some great distros available now, and Mint is a great place to start.

The Gnome 0.24.6 iso from the website. Running Nvidia 565.77 driver on Bazzite host. I have tried to enable 3d accel and open gl in Virt-Manager but it fails to load & errors when I hit begin install. VBox creates and runs but hangs on the boot screen & wont move past the attached pic.

You never tried Gnome?

While directIng people to awesome software is great, I don’t believe that is the official Debian Bluesky account.
@debian.bsky.social is the official I believe.
