It's too bad that his death comes just a few weeks before his scheduled formal induction into the Hall of Fame, but at least he learned he'd been selected to join the Cooperstown crew a few months ago.
RIP to one of the greats.

A good guy, he not only gave the A's a lefty presence against the right-handed bats of Canseco, McGwire, Henderson, Carney Lansford, and, in the second half of 1989, Rickey Henderson. That club had great team chemistry, and Parker, who'd learned chemistry from Willie Stargell, helped bring it out.

His best power years were behind him at that point, but, never one to take a back seat to anyone, during one batting practice he challenged Canseco to a HR contest. The catch? Parker, a lefty, would bat right. Canseco, a righty, would bat left. It drew a big crowd. Both guys went deep multiple times
