I'm not fan of Fox but this is pretty low. How would you feel if a Republican said the same of a black woman on MSNBC with an afro and a cross necklace?

I understand you're mad, but I don't want to see the wanton racism of the Other Place infect this one too.

Yes please!

An undisclosed CIA Agent was named in the texts. The spin is insane.

That's an easy distinction. In US v Texas, the district judge was appointed by Trump. Here, it's an Obama nominee. So the applicable law is different. /s

TBH I don't think there's a fix for new admin's switch DOJ litigation positions. But the judge-shopping for nationwide injunctions has to stop.

The Nobel Prize for Economics was awarded this year for research on how strong public institutions increase wealth. At least God has a sense of irony!

I knew this was serious, but not serious enough for Scott to break character! Changing my underwear now.

Oh joy! I was just worrying that my children's teeth were TOO healthy

Yep he just did this for birthright citizenship in the NYT! Argued that "jurisdiction" really means "allegiance" instead of, ya know, JURISDICTION.

what Ohioan diner-goer hasn't mixed up a Vladimir and a Vlodymyr now and again?
February 19, 2025 at 8:17 PM
Yeah I agree that voters don't have a good long-term view, although idk if I would either if I was living paycheck to paycheck. And the solutions, as you suggest, are difficult. How do we fix democratic backsliding? build a robust public education system! but that takes lots of time and money.
February 19, 2025 at 7:05 PM
I agree that it's about perceived economic circumstances than the reality. Ben Shapiro gets it wrong, the saying should be "feelings don't care about your facts"
February 19, 2025 at 7:02 PM
Orange man bad, obviously , but otherwise I couldn't disagree more with your analysis. Voters follow Maslow's hierarchy of needs - they don't care about felonies and racism if it's (at least perceived) to be harder to feed their families and afford rent
February 19, 2025 at 7:01 PM
and I'm not criticizing one party or the other - incumbents of any stripe lost across the globe in 2024. But voters care about real economic realities (aka household budgets), not whether the Fed is happy with inflation/unemployment or how we stack up vis a vis europe
February 19, 2025 at 6:20 AM
Tom, I'm a fan of yours but this belies an out-of-touch elitism that helped win Trump the election. The typical economic indicators can look good while there is a growing number of working poor that are barely making ends meet. I'm a dem but I know real wages haven't kept pace with inflation.
February 19, 2025 at 6:18 AM
JFC your bio says "cynicism is defeatism" and I don't disagree. but if this isn't cynicism, I don't know what is. I'm terrified of Trump too and doing my best to resist, but fearmongering about the potential next pope with no evidence is a bit much. Just trying to keep the faith myself!
February 19, 2025 at 6:14 AM
Real talk - is this what you want people to say about you as you approach death? Regardless of your religious beliefs, this is really pathetic.

Also you spelled judgment wrong.
February 19, 2025 at 6:05 AM
Idk why you are looking to score points here, but the Catholic Church hasn't been anti-science for a few centuries. although RIP Galileo.

Evangelicalism is a different story ...
February 19, 2025 at 6:03 AM
Can you be a little bit less of a doomer? Francis, and presumably the college of cardinals who elected him, have been no fans of Trump. I'm not giving up hope yet, despite the fake christianity of Vance, Mike Johnson and team.

Try getting up on ye other side of bed tomorrow
February 19, 2025 at 5:58 AM
I admire your work on behalf of Steven Donzinger trying to get Rule 42(a)(2) off the books for good, even if I would narrowly support its use against Bove should he fail to testify honestly in this case. Too ripe for abuse.
February 17, 2025 at 7:34 PM
I agree this will be one of the last failsafes, although I'm not sure whether it will work. The Joint Chiefs of Staff plus senior congressional leadership taking the keys away from Trump, Vance, and Hegseth simultaneously alongside a lightspeed impeachment trial to prevent the end of America.
February 17, 2025 at 7:10 PM
I see where you're coming from too, unfortunately I think it will be many years before we can make a final determination. Anne Appelbaum over at the Atlantic has some good writing about the difficult decisions that autocracy poses, and how other countries have responded.
February 15, 2025 at 12:37 AM
I understand the doomerism given where we are. But these DOJ lawyers (and the judge) know that we're already way past any kind of line in the sand. This is about damage control for the republic now, and there are no easy options. What good would more resignations at this moment achieve?
February 14, 2025 at 11:56 PM
i caught your drift! wishing you a speedy recovery
February 14, 2025 at 11:47 PM
I'm as fired up as I've ever been, and I'm glad you are too! We can't give up hope - sooner or later, we will win. Trump will undoubtedly end up in the dustbin of history. But I am preparing for a long and difficult battle.
