Coming back through Bamako airport in Mali with a small bag of gravel pack (round stones used in borehole construction) when the soldier at the last of numerous check points pulled it and asked "ques que se?". I couldn't really answer so he helped himself to something from my bag and waved me on!

Aled J and I once had a discussion about whose road side spring dafs were better on the other place. Happy days...

Its nowhere near as bad as they say Tony - there aren't many main routes with a 20 on it. Here in Abergavenny its much easier to get about or cross the road. I was sceptical but fully support it. Ironically I got a speeding fine for doing 23 in 20. In London. In Wales it needs to be over 26mph!

Very interesting to see groundwater levels in the East Anglian Chalk holding up relatively well so far. Groundwater is a key factor in drought resilience. Building new reservoirs is not necessarily the magic bullet which solves our water shortage issues.

Totally agree - i had a bike stolen from similar "tethers" to those on the wall - they are useless.

Very much like it - it's all part of our varied heritage.

I heard that we were actually in surplus and therefore the calculation should have been in our favour if anything.

The world is so mad at the moment I initially thought that this was possible...

That's astonishing but makes a lot of sense.

Its the ultimate sound of summer for me. Hot sunny days walking with the sound of the skylark is bliss.

You can see it on some of the walls in Bath too from the so called Baedeker Raids, a series of destructive air raids against historic towns and cities in Britain and named after the Baedeker series of guidebooks.
