Spent today exploring the city walls of Girona - which are full of forams! Anyone know more about these? View from the city walls is stunning as well! ⚒️🌊

Next up is @mribo.bsky.social presenting some beautiful high resolution bathymetry data from Kaikōura Canyon!

Now into the scientific talks, starting with Canyon Geomorphology. Here Susi Woelz (NIWA) is talking about a dramatic landslide on the edge of Pegasus Canyon - offshore Aotearoa 🌊⚒️

Great start to the 7th INCISE conference in Barcelona - Structure from Motion workshop on day one, including a chance to drive an ROV in a mini survey around the pool at ICM!

Can't wait to take these out for the first test run next week! Using our 'BathyBoxes' to help teach the concepts of seafloor mapping - based on 3D models of real seafloor landscapes around Aotearoa 🌊⚒️🧪

This figure sums up the variation along the margin really nicely! 🌊🧪⚒️

In Vienna for a few days to attend the first proposal review meeting under IODP3 - great start today with introductions from all the reviewers! Nice venue and some sunshine helped too. Looking forward to discussing interesting science proposals! @anzic.bsky.social

Yesterday’s office - blue skies over Wellington Harbour while we ran camera surveys looking at anchoring impacts 🌤️ 🌊⚓️ Just 24hrs later and it’s grey and rainy - escaped before the southerly front hits ⛈️🛫

Sometimes we forget to focus on the positives - like getting a paper back with minor revisions 🥳 - so today we had cupcakes (in the theme of the paper) decorated as landslides 🪨😆! Now off to spend the afternoon in a continued battle with ArcPro and Python..........

Today we got to see the first core ever recovered by the ocean drilling programme (then DSDP) - there is so much material in the repositories just waiting to be explored! The value of #IODP goes far beyond the initial expeditions that collect these data ⛴️🌊🧪

A few of us from @anzic.bsky.social are at the #IODP 21st Century Drilling Workshop this week - learning all about the different facilities at the Gulf Coast Repository, thinking about using legacy data for future science projects, and getting to look at some cores! 🧪🌊

Some great plane geology on my flight from SFO to Houston today. Off to College Station to learn all about the core archives! ✈️🪨

Escaped the real world to explore some trails in the sunshine! Now back to work and the start of what looks to be a very busy few months 😳

Great to see this online - investigating offshore carbon transport in the 2016 Kaikōura event bed! Thanks to an awesome group of authors (including @profbobhilton.bsky.social), led by Katie Maier 😊 New area for me so I learned a lot in the last 6 months 🌊🧪https://doi.org/10.1016/j.epsl.2025.119241

Wonderful sunny day for a run up Kaukau with a very happy dog! 🐾 Arms got as much of a workout as my legs, he’s too fast uphill! #runsky

Didn’t run it but spent yesterday working as event medic for a 19 km race (The Goat) along the slopes of Mt Ruapehu - pretty epic scenery for a race! Need to come back and run it one day 🌋Off for a mountain bike ride today!

Very easy to get distracted by fun projects like 3D printing bathymetry scenes for an @anzic.bsky.social funded outreach project, but should really be untangling data and writing papers............

First run commute for the new year, still finding new trails to explore on the way - like this little one that includes a tiny plank to cross the (currently dry) stream! Lovely day for it, sunny and calm, good escapism from a chaotic world ☀️ #runsky

Today’s run featured a >193,000 yr old maar (Lake Pupuke), one of the oldest volcanic features in Tāmaki Makaurau, and a lovely view of Rangitoto, the youngest (and largest) volcano in the Auckland volcanic field (~1500 yrs). Plus some angry swans for added excitement!

Managed to sneak in a run to the beach this morning before the rain arrived. Lovely outcrops of Miocene(?) sediments along the shore, and stunning views of Rangitoto volcano offshore. Pretty good start to the day! ☀️🏃‍♀️

Slightly belated post for Antarctica Day - but here is a little video from the Ross Sea earlier this year, spot the penguins (Adelie and a few Emperors) hanging out on the ice as we cruised past🐧🧊🚢
