My new profile banner - a lesson in impermanence: my father, grandfather, uncles and 2 cousins in central Wisconsin in the early 1950s - all gone now. The barn and corn crib have long been demolished and replaced with an apartment development.

As we were just reminded on the second sunday of Advent, fire is a symbol, not just of pain and suffering, but also of purification. May we dare to hope for some sort of purification to grow out of this disaster?
