If you want to grow, expand yourself, and make a difference in the world, develop a reading practice.

If you're the same person you are today next year, you're not reading. You're stagnant. Human beings are wired to grow and change. If you want a rich, full, vibrant life, you must read.

We are emotional beings. Learning to identify, process, and express emotions is a necessary human skill. The consequences of not connecting to our emotions and regulating them is relationally catastrophic.

It's natural to want to be liked. Some people adapt or change themselves to fit in and be accepted. This is not true acceptance. Moreover, changing for others diminishes you and leads to low self-esteem.

Accept yourself first.

Don't give up.
Keep moving forward.
Persevere.
Be tenacious.
Show up consistently.
Small wins every day = big wins in a year.

The discomfort of daily discipline, periodic setbacks, and episodes of disappointment or discouragement are nothing compared to the pain of regret for giving up.

🎯 Compulsive people pleasing is more than the behavior. It's a maladaptive mindset and survival strategy to feel good about yourself by taking care of others. I call it Self-Love Deficit Disorder. You'll likely need professional help.

People pleasing is low self-esteem pretending to be helpful and caring. Underneath this behavior is deep feelings of insecurity and worthlessness.

🎯 Make journaling a daily practice.

Some people see too much. It often starts in childhood. Seeing and understanding things others don't brings suffering and loneliness. But it can be a gift.

Stop chasing stuff and experiences you hope will make you happy. Get off the hedonic treadmill.

Start pursuing relationships, health, and goals that give your life increasing levels of meaning, fulfillment, and purpose.

Jean-Paul Sartre posited that we shape our identity through our decisions. Neither external circumstances nor predetermined factors define us. We define ourselves by the actions we take and the paths we choose. While we live in communities, we and we alone are responsible for our lives.

"Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind. Most of us avoid clarity because we tell ourselves that we're being kind, when what we're actually doing is being unkind and unfair. Feeding people half-truths to make them feel better (which is making ourselves feel more comfortable) is unkind." Brene Brown

Action always alleviates anxiety.

If we could read minds, we would be more compassionate and kind to others. Since we can't, let's default to kindness.

Ironically, we do know our own thoughts, so let us show the same kindness and compassion to ourselves.

Feed it hope.
Feed it truth.
Feed it love.

Big dreams, big goals, and big plans mean nothing without consistent action each day. Inflated ego and big talk mean nothing without behavior to support it.

The person you'll be at the end of this year and beyond is based on what you do today, tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that....

Is there something you've been putting off? Something you've wanted to start but don't have the motivation, confidence, or courage.

If you wait for those feelings, you'll never start. That's how it works--the feelings show up after action.

✍️ What have you been postponing?

🎯 Take one action.

"Kindness is my religion" - The Dalai Lama

✍️ What gets in the way of you being kind to yourself and others? How do your ego and ego-defenses keep you separate from yourself and others? What is the path forward if you want to cultivate greater kindness and relationality?

Most people believe they're ready to enter a long term, romantic relationship.

Relationships bring out the dysfunctional patterns learned in childhood and adolescence. People aren't ready to show up consistently for their partner with empathy, patience, and emotional maturity.

Do your work!
