“Half the crowd is calling out for ‘Born To Run’
The other half is calling out for ‘Born To Lose’
Baby, we were born to choose”

If they court martial him, I’d like to see Senator Kelly walk into the courtroom, sing “You can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant,” and walk out.

Los Lobos’ “Kiko” may just make the cut - released in 1992. First record was 1977, I think.

Palladium, Sept. 1979. According to the photo credit on the record I was at the show where Paul smashed his bass on Sept. 21, but I don’t remember it happening. Lately the consensus is that it was the prior night. Incredible show regardless.

The Vandals’ “Oi to the World” and the No Doubt cover of it are both essential Christmas listening. (My kids and I still run around the house on Christmas morning, screaming “Oi to the punks! Oi to the skins!” at the top of our lungs. They’re in their 20’s now.)

I just reread Kurt Andersen’s “The Real Thing.” A bit dated, but still very funny. Then I re-read his “Fantasyland,” which is in no way dated. After that my daughter got me hooked on Sarah Maas’ “Throne of Glass” series, which is not usually in my wheelhouse but which I consumed like popcorn.

I remember him well from the days of rec.music.gdead. He was always a thoughtful writer. RIP
