@jhaller.bsky.social
Fan of comics and other narrative art forms.
I also write and draw my own comics when I remember I’m an artist 🫢
Reading the original Alpha Flight run by John Byrne, in issue 7 from 1984, you can clearly see he TOTALLY ment Northstar to be gay all along. Even if he couldn’t say it out loud.

My hull from the local comic book show at the Lloyd Center.

(Not pictured, out of shame, a book written by an author that got me too’ed. But artist is a good guy.
Used massive hardcover for only $4.00 😬)

No doodle today, instead a panel from a story I’m working on.

“Life”
In 2155, tv producers desperate for ratings decide to start a show where clones (that don’t count as ‘people’) are hunted down and killed on air.

The theme of this and the next month’s story is “there is a price to be paid for failing to respect the lives of others”
Per Tezuka himself

“Civil War”
Original title actually translates to ‘Turbulent Times’.
An epic story about a woodcutter, unwillingly becoming a samurai in the 12th century at the end of the Heian Period. Caught in the middle of various fractions of a corrupt crumbling empire making power grabs.

Very good but long.

“Nostalgia”
A couple buys an empty planet, with plans to populate it.
The story follows the generations that come after and an attempt to return to Earth.
As the title suggests, it deals with the desire to recreate something from the past that may have never existed.

Very relevant today.

@coreyrforrester.bsky.social heard you on this week’s WellRed say you might get a tattoo of Robert E Lee sucking off Colonel Sanders. Reminded I once drew Robert E Lee sucking off Ulysses S Grant for “Robert E Lee Day”

Hope you enjoy

“Robe of Feathers”
The shortest of the Phoenix stories; can be read in 20 min.
Set up as a stage play, in 940 ad, it is the tale of a hunter finding the robe of a woman… the hunter promises to give it back if the woman will be his wife for 3 year.

Nice and very short.

“Resurrection”
Leon dies in an accident, but is brought back with an experimental procedure that repairs the brain and body with artificial parts. Because of this he sees human lumps of matter and robots as humans.

This is my second favorite Phoenix story. Great stuff about “what is consciousness?”
