Not sure that I believe the part about Otis, a Black man, staying at a Holiday Inn- in the South, in ‘67? Really? Was Steve oblivious to the discrimination at the time? Or was Otis in Calif? But even there, Jim Crow followed - as we know from reading Isabel Wilkerson’s “Warmth of Other Suns.”

Yes, a great story - a SC hero for sure! Interestingly, his great-great grandson, Michael B. Moore, ran for SC’s 1st congressional seat in ‘24, the very seat in Congress that Smalls had held during Reconstruction, 150 yrs prior (but unfortunately, he lost to Nancy Mace 😠).
