You could also just be honest and say, look, I love you a lot but I can't relate/understand at all. I suggest you talk about this with someone else who can understand better than me.

Use humor & be assertive about it. When my friends complain about their dads being overprotective or having to spend time with family, I tell them, "Are you really complaining about your dad loving you too much to the only fatherless kid here?" Funny, direct, & doesn't come off as an attack on them.
