In our Mediterranean ecosystems, two species flower almost exclusively now, i.e. in autumn-winter: Erica multiflora & Arbutus unedo; both Ericaceae. A. unedo flowers and fruits simultaneously. Valencia, Spain

Sequoia sempervirens (redwood; world's tallest tree) is well adapted to high-intensity crown fires (eg 2020), but Sequoiadendron giganteum (giant sequoia; world's most massive tree) is adapted to surface fires only!

Those savannas next to the river that experienced flooding a few months ago are now ready to burn (flood-sensitive grasses); savannas further from the river are green (non-flammable).
Flooding enhances fire, i.e., water and fire are complementary forces in Los Llanos del Orinoco, Colombia.

No flammable plants living in a flammable fuel bed:
Even young Chaparros (Curatella americana) & Alcornocos (Bowdichia virgilioides) survive postfire thanks to their low-flammability strategy (sensus dx.doi.org/10.1111/1365...), Llanos del Orinoco.

The crested caracara (Caracara plancus, Falconidae) is among the first avian species to benefit from prescribed burns here in Los Llanos del Orinoco. Up to 26 individuals were observed today while we were still burning

Alcornoco (Bowdichia virgilioides, Fabaceae) en los Llanos del Orinoco. Taxonómicamente no tiene nada que ver con el alcornoque (Quercus suber, Fagaceae), pero las dos viven en sitios con fuego y rebrotan epicórmicamente
