I partly agree with you. Schumer and Durbin have the titles. But I suspect that Senators with the seniority and status of Reed and Whitehouse carry sway with their Democratic colleagues. And I’d like to believe that they could, if need be, show Schumer the error of his ways. If so inclined…

Thanks for your efforts! But what will Reed and Whitehouse do if the next shutdown persists? Will they continue to speak strongly against continued ICE funding or will they – along with other senior Democratic leadership – continue to vote no while quietly enabling those prepared to back down?

It will be telling to see how many Dems are willing to go on record to remove leadership. My bet is that it will be no where near 23. Too many of them were encouraging and enabling this travesty. Their “no” votes don’t reveal the depth of their complicity. Time for a new party.

If this passes, it lets the gang of 10 turn around, hypocritically vote to maintain ACA subsidies in Dec and appear to their constituents to be working for lower healthcare premiums. But they know full well that it’s an exercise in futility because, at that point it will be a simple majority vote.

From what I’ve been able to find, the Republican offer is to agree to a vote in December to extend the ACA tax credits in exchange for ending the shutdown now. Is Schumer a complete idiot? No reply necessary.
