This is a weird piece of Wikipedia vandalism because like... why?

And also, how did no one notice this for two days short of 3 months??? (I'm tempted to leave it for two more days so it can be exactly 3 months...)

Wikipedia page showing differences between the last un-vandalized revision of the disambiguation page for "immediate" and the current revision. All instances of the word "immediate" have been replaced by the nonce word "immedient" (where the ending is spelled e-n-t instead of the correct a-t-e), turning them into broken/red links. At the end of the page, a link to "immediacy (disambiguation)" has also been turned into plain text in the kerfuffle: One of the opening square brackets of this specific link has been removed, causing the would-be link to simply display as normal text instead of as a broken link

A screenshot of the current state of the article. You can see how all links containing the word "immediate" are now broken, red links. At the bottom of the page you can also see how the link to immediency (disambiguation) now displays as the text "left square bracket (immediency)" followed by two right square brackets. Not even the link to Wiktionary was spared, which you can see is still blue, but is nonetheless broken as no such page exists; the fact that no Wiktionary page exists is what proves to me this is outright vandalism

I do truly love the story from Emilio Segre of how Fermi named his nuclear pile

Emelio Segrè later recalled that: "I thought for a while that this term was used to refer to a source of nuclear energy in analogy with Volta's use of the Italian term 'pila' to denote his own great invention of a source of electrical energy. I was disillusioned by Fermi himself, who told me that he simply used the common English word 'pile' as synonymous with 'heap'. To my surprise, Fermi never seemed to have thought of the relationship between his 'pile' and Volta's."

Many grammarians object to the use of literally as an intensifier, though this should be understood as a minority opinion rather than a definitive rule of English. For example “you literally become the ball” means either actually transforming into a spherical object, which is clearly impossible. or the speaker is using literally as an intensifier, to indicate that the metaphor is to be understood in the strongest possible sense. This type of usage is common in informal speech (“she literally broke his heart” referring to the strength of the heartbreak, not actual cardiovascular trauma) and in written, formal English. Another word used similarly is veritably.

I was looking up how to say "to speak [language]" in Armenian. Wiktionary did not have it, but they did did have this way to discussing speaking a language mediocrely in Spanish lol
