Idk what you’re expecting when you say “a big fundraiser” but you may have noticed thousands of signs in dc about supporting federal workers and many local businesses offering discounts to furloughed feds. Federal workers were not forgotten, tho there was rightly more focus on snap cuts and ice

I walk by there pretty often and even at times you would assume max usage of a park and ride the spaces are mostly empty. Homes would be a much better use!
