I went with a blend shader instead of the 2D Lights. I ended up using sprites like this for the light cutouts

I ended up not using the 2D Light system and made a custom shader instead. I use the 'hint_screen_texture' to get the current screen, and blend that with the color of my cutout sprite. The darkness is just I giant transparent square
