Don’t forget the other side of this: their influence and market forces pressuring sites into enshittifying to stay relevant and ranked. So not only is the search broken, but the content you’re trying to find is broken too.

The best use case I’ve found so far is fancy code autocomplete. Saves me a few seconds here and there. Hardly worth the billions of investment and data harvesting though

That’s a fair point, I go back and forth on this a lot. I think I should reword it as - platforms which have some protective barriers against exploitation by big tech (AI, tracking, scraping) might be a good things

Huge fan of your podcast here. It’s funny that there’s so much bandwidth and power available and yet text and even images cost almost nothing to host. There’s an interesting economy of scale thing to exploit here - bandwidth being so cheap that anyone could build a huge platform from their garage.
