TTC has ordered a whole bunch of new Subways from single supplier (without bids) from Alstom. (no RFP due to Carney's "buy canadian" policy).

TTC: Press release […]

Shape of things to come in USA:

Curt Jürgens played Stomberg (the bad guy) in The Syy Who Loved me. He was born in Germany from a German family.

From IMDB:

Jürgens was sent to a concentration camp for "political unreliables" in 1944, due to his anti-Nazi opinions […]

Recovering capsules onto a ship with lowered platform that is risen out of water was science fiction in 1977 for The Spy who loved me. Implemented by SpaceX for Dragon and by NASA for Orion, if it ever flies.

Derek Meddings ot only worked on programmes like Thunderbirds, but also on most James Bond movies till his death just after GoldenEye.

Here, is the scale of the models is made for The Spy who Loved me. The Liparus was 20+ metres long and had truck engine to power […]

Back in 1977, the British secret service were able to convert a high performance gasoline Lotus car into a hybrid able to be a submarine. When underwater, obviously the gasoline engine couldn't work, which means that back in 1977 they already had battery technolgy […]

With REM down between Deux Montagnes and Ville Mont Royal, it means that EXO will now be dumping passengers at Côte de Liesse with no way for these people to go anywhere.

So to get to Ottawa, the Alto virtual train will first travel north all the wat to Ste-Thérèse then veer west likely along existing ex CP tracks but cross Ottawa Ro9ver somewhere between Carillon and Hawkesbury.

Likely scenario would be to join up with the old M&O […]

@EdwinG They can presenve the ST-Jerome line if they want. In fact. EXO should be preserving their real locos (the electric dual mode ones) because it would let them use the Alto line to downtown. As well, CP may fight to keep one unelstrified track for its […]

So that long endless corridor between the orginal Grand Central Terminal and the escalators going down to LIRR section is actually under the top level of tracks so there are trains above this fairly wide corridor. That ios pretty im,pressive.
January 15, 2026 at 12:20 AM
Finally obtained some infographics that properly explain the location of the new "Grand Central Madison" train station for long island railway and it is not only under the GCT tracks, butthe mezzanine/corridor is also below the top level of tracks. The corridor is […]

:ast week, I checked out the Bay stopre in downtown Montréal. Surprised the brand is still up on building and métro entrance. The ground floor is ighted up filly and there are still some store "shelves" around. Was expecting to be to totally empty. There is a security groard on ground floor.

Included in a #crtc filing. A 1917 ad for Cattle Prod which I suggest the CRTC start using to manage the incumbents instead of serving them caviar and champagne whenever they threaten investment.

@chris In 1984 and 1985, I biked to and from Alberni. I was very aware of the tracks (and at time still running train) between Victoria and Parkville, but it is you that told me about tracks to Alberni. Looking at topo maps, I don't understand why, while cucling the […]

Portions of Vancouver are alwo under a rain waning, vbut only 75 to 125mm of rain (or 75cm to 1.255m of sow in Canadian measures).

Flights won't be impacted at all because Sea Island and Richmon/Delta are expempt from the precipitation.
January 15, 2026 at 4:34 PM
Holy rain Batman !

West coast of Vancouver Island is to get between 120 and 180mm of rain.

Translated to Canadian measures, this means roughly 1.2 to 1.8 metres of snow. This puts our measly 15-20cm ifor Montréal n perspective.

( @chris is outside the warning, so […]
