Aussie 7-10 Science and VCE Biology Teacher, Science Coordinator and Learning & Teaching Coordinator. Owner of a Ragdoll fur-baby and blue-tongue lizard (aka student whisperer). Lover of good books and taking my paddle board out for adventures.
Over the summer holidays I set my 2025 Yr 11 Bio students a task to show me their understanding of basic plant or animal structure. Typically I get the usual labelled diagram. I loved this one as it used cup lids as the membrane which I thought was such a creative idea. #vcebiology #iteachbiology

For the last few years I’ve made a commitment to finish marking and writing reports before report-writing day so that I can get out in nature during a weekday when crowds are low. It’s just a nice way to feed the soul. #EduskyAU #EduSky #teacherwellbeing #aussiebush #sherbrookeforrestcircuit

Last of the Tawny fledglings at my local park. We have about 5-6 pairs regularly nesting each year. #tawnyfrogmouth #aussiebirdlife

This is why I stay in teaching. Sure, I could earn more $ elsewhere and have less encroachment on my personal life but nowhere else do you get such an opportunity to set a young person on the road to success and self-belief. #teacherlife #EduSky

We are lucky enough to have two well-being pups in training at school. This handsome fella is Louie. He’ll be working in the secondary school once he passes his test.

Celebrated 20 years of quality STEM outreach programs at GTAC today. Keynote was from the amazing Professor Jenny Graves, an Aussie Scientist who has researched the genomes of marsupials, sex chromosomes of different animals, and co-created a musical on the origin of life. #iteachbiology #GTAC

For my fellow VCE science teachers out there what are you doing for your Yr 12 Step-Up program? One of my regular activities is to familiarise my students with the Study Design. I’ve intentionally included the scientific methodologies table as a result of this year’s exam. #VCEBiology #SciTeachAU

Our VCE Systems Engineering class had their battlebot tournament today. After a 3 minute warm-up, the trapdoor opens and the winning team for the round is the one that is able to push their opponents bot down the hole. #EduSky #VCESystemsEngineering

Excited to use the new Seastar S50 telescope that we bought for the Science department. We can take it out during the day to take colour images of objects like the moon and sun. Will be great for Yr 7 and 10 Science as well as our 9/10 Astronomy elective. #EduSky #iteachscience

Great day of learning about and practising instructional coaching today with the @steplab.bsky.social crew in Melbourne. Check it out if you’re interested in a coaching tool that is responsive, evidence-based, scaffolded & improvement-driven.

First post on this platform is dedicated to the present that I bought myself on completing my Master of Education ten years ago. The majority of posts from here on in will be about teaching and learning from an Aussie viewpoint.
