On November 17, 1962, JFK and President Eisenhower dedicated Dulles Airport, the first airport in the world designed for jet aircraft. Its now-iconic main terminal was designed by architect Eero Saarinen.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and Museum Store will reopen to the public on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

"Democracy is not perfect, but we have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in." On November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall came down, 28 years after it was built.

During his short trip to West Berlin in June 1963, President Kennedy visited Checkpoint Charlie, a crossing along the Wall.

#OTD on November 8, 1960, Senator John F. Kennedy was elected president in a close race, beating Vice President Richard M. Nixon by approximately 118,550 votes.

After casting his vote in Boston, JFK traveled to Hyannis Port to await the election results with his family.

On November 4, 1952, Representative John F. Kennedy beat out the incumbent Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. to become Senator for Massachusetts.

JFK and ExComm replied to Khruschev that night, and RFK met with the Soviet ambassador to the US to backchannel about Kennedy’s new proposal - the US would remove the Turkish missiles but it had to be kept secret.

The US had its first combat casualty when pilot Rudolph Anderson was shot down by a Soviet anti-aircraft missile. JFK was worried that more pilots would be killed if they kept doing surveillance over the island.

On the 26th, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev had sent Kennedy a promising message that the crisis could be resolved.

On the 27th, he added a stipulation, surprising JFK and his advisors in ExComm: that the US remove its nuclear missiles in Turkey.

On October 22, 1962, President Kennedy went on television to speak to the nation and revealed the evidence of Soviet missiles in Cuba. He also announced the establishment of a naval quarantine around the island until the Soviet Union agreed to dismantle the missile sites.

Today we celebrate the 46th anniversary of the dedication of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum! On October 20, 1979, the JFK Library was dedicated by members of the Kennedy family and President Carter.
