Outdoors - I dig nature, birds, backpacking, old Brit Bikes, and old Land Rovers.

Indoors - I dig old vinyl, trying to get better at chess, this old house, good coffee, and a good pint.

Everywhere - I dig my family and friends.

Glorious fall riding weather here in NC brought out some classic Brit bikes today.

After this large limb dropped, causing significant house and vehicle damage, insurance covered repairs won't start until the tree is removed.

After decades of arborist pruning and care, installation of upper canopy support cables, permanent watering, moisture retention systems - goodbye old friend.

Sad to say we will be losing the largest tree in our yard this week. Tree crew is coming to take our nearly 100 year old Willow Oak. Trunk pictured here.

Impossible to fit the whole tree in a single shot, but one of my favorite views is this one seen coming down our driveway.

Ty Segall - Possession

A new artist to me. My cousin sent this LP to me - said he thought, given our music discussions over the years, that I would like this band/record.

He was right. Listened to it the day it arrived last week, and am enjoying another listen this eve.

Rose City Band at Motorco Music Hall, Durham, NC!!

Very tight and talented band.

Rare Earth - always liked their sound and vibe.

This 1971 album is a gem.

Rare Earth is one of the plethora of great bands out of Michigan in the 60's & 70's.

And yep - they were on Motown.

I Just Want To Celebrate has always been an anthem from my early teenaged years.

Best birthday presents for this vinyl junkie. Gift cards to local Record Stores!

My family knows me well.

His juvenile tactic of ginning up petty and unrelated distractions in an attempt to have us take our eyes off what he is really doing, or to bury bad press so we move on and forget the all the destruction and failure.

He had to make a scene leaving the G7 early.

Why? Concerned about this week.
June 17, 2025 at 4:13 PM
Days after the parade humiliation, increased Israel & Ukraine bombings, murders in Minnesota and Utah, a G7 summit where Trump had to share the stage, aftermath from No Kings & spending bill struggles - all resulting in further declining numbers - worries me about the next Trump distraction.

Sooo many No Kings rally options in our part of NC yesterday. We chose Cary. Rally goers were thousands strong on Kildaire Farm Road, many blocks north and south of the Maynard Road intersection. Sympathetic honking of horns was prolific!

Folks passing out flags, sharing stories, and positivity.

Learned at my most recent Audubon meeting about DOGE targeting the USGS managed bird banding program.

Seeing sparse coverage on this so far, but the below article exposes some of the targeted impacts.

Expect more info and position content soon.

Wake Audubon event - invasive species removal at Carroll Howard Environmental Education Park in Fuquay-Varina, NC.

Volunteers and tow staff pulled 2 truck loads of mostly Chinese Privet and Oriental Bittersweet.

Plenty more to pull when fall cooler weather is here.

When a plea to my TON UP NC mates netted the below solution.

Got the kickstart rubber on, and a serious hankering for an umbrella drink in the process.

I must admit, spray sunblock makes for some nice workshop aroma therapy.
May 12, 2025 at 5:44 AM
After trying a variety of lubricants, and aggressive methods of persuasion, I managed to get the damn thing part way on.

By "part way", I mean less than one inch, leaving over 3 more inches to go.

WD40, soap, bashing with a rubber mallet, a roofing hammer on a 2x4....
May 12, 2025 at 5:38 AM
Until today, my 1967 BSA WD B40 never had a rubber on the kickstart lever.

See below pic.

Thought I would quickly remedy that after finding - while cleaning the shop some today, a brand new one that I must have ordered many years ago...and obviously forgot about.

Everclear gig tonight.

Art Alexakis' vocals were crisp and right. Band was talented and tight.

Excellent way to spend a Saturday night!

The NC State Supreme Court race is FINALLY settled.

The Republican candidate conceded following yesterday's Federal Court ruling.

Justice Allison Riggs will at last - get to resume her role on our state's highest court.

6 months after the election, we finally are able to take down our sign!

Going through a box of old office stuff from my days of "working for the man". I started work, post 1 term with the Air Force and 2 more years of College - with a little Telecom Company called MCI.

Found my first company directory.

Kind of Outdoorsy. The AT hostel we over-nighted in after the long drive from NC.

The Doyle. A long-standing iconic fixture on the AT. Cheap digs, food & beer. All essential elements long distance AT hikers appreciate. Alas it was closed for the day on the Sunday we arrived in Duncannon.
