I once experienced seeing lightening hit a tree from a distance. Smoke came out of the tree then all appeared ok. I rang the fire brigade just as a caution. They sent me images similar to this. Thankful for the call, as they said a tree can hold fire for up to two weeks then explode. Yikes.

Thanks for posting… as an Aussie, quite used to the long haul distance for getting anywhere ~ New Zealand bottom left there is a close neighbour.
