The cat who destroyed my left foot on Thursday night. Her brother made a loud noise and she went on the offensive and I got caught in the way. My foot is so mangled, I bled so much, passed out twice from shock. It will be days before I can wear proper shoes. But she’s cute, so I forgive her.

The wee-est cantaloupe ever to grow. I for sure planted it in the wrong spot this year, but I am hopeful for next year!

So I have counted 4 Cinderella pumpkins and 2 goblin pumpkins in the garden. They’re various sizes and I am excited about all of them.

These calendula seeds are so curly! Doing some seed saving for next year. I also tossed some of the seeds back in the bed too so they can reseed on their own in spring.

I did not realize this was a spider at first. I thought the bee was sleeping so I touched her wing and the spider extended its leg. And then I was like OH! Photo by the hubs with a really good camera. I guess crab spiders mimic flowers to catch their prey.

Teaching the small human that pressing flowers is neat. So naturally he requested these from our 90yo neighbor’s front yard. We went today and asked and the neighbor said yes. So we have two! In case one gets weird while being pressed.

Today on the way back from errands we stopped by the local Latinx fruit vendor for this amazing treasure. We got free mango samples while he was assembling the container and died of happiness. My kid says we now have to stop every week to support the vendor’s small business. Proud parent here. 🥹

Garden strawberries were made into jam this week, with a bunch more being harvested for snacking or more jam. I cannot stress enough how lovely it is to grow your own food. I feel like strawberries and potatoes are really good beginner crops.

The strawberry patch is doing well this season. Not sure if it will produce as much as it did last year, but we are hopeful. #resistancegardening

So I planted the garlic in the bed where the potatoes were last year, assuming i got all the potatoes out. I did not, in fact, get all the potatoes out. So I now have random potatoes growing w the garlic. Happy accident that they are good companions. Whoops!

Just out here counting bees that visit the flowers out front. The drop in numbers is noticeable. I’m hoping these ladies go back and make more bees so the summer is a good one and the garden flourishes. We need bees. 🥺

Places I’d rather be: Tokyo. We were going to go back this spring but then didn’t because of scheduling and now next spring feels ages away. My kid keeps saying let’s go this summer so he can sweat. lol he would be so miserable. But maybe? Haha.
