Having survived with minimal changes for around 200 million years, sixgill sharks have endured numerous extinction events. However, their populations are rapidly declining due to human fishing activities, and they are now listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.

After decades of whaling severely reduced their numbers, humpback whales have made a significant recovery. However, a recent study suggests that climate change might be hindering this recovery. A survey found humpback populations in the North Pacific Ocean declined by 20% between 2012 and 2021. 🐋

The sailfin sculpin, scientifically known as Nautichthys oculofasciatus, is a moderately sized fish that can grow up to 8 inches long. This species is named for its elongated, sail-like first dorsal fin, which can stand straight up like a sail or be tucked down and to the side.

Cuttlefish are remarkably intelligent. They can count, recall their food choices, and even pass a version of the marshmallow test. Inthis test, a child is given a marshmallow and must choose whether to eat it immediately or wait for a larger reward later.

Situated just an hour’s boat ride from the West End of Grand Bahama, this small, shallow sand flat is considered one of the world's premier spots for diving with tiger sharks. Also a great place to see Caribbean reef sharks, Lemon sharks, and Nurse sharks. 🦈

Sockeye salmon prefer to spawn in river systems that include lakes. It is common for them to lay their eggs along lake beaches as well as in rivers and streams.
