I understand your sentiment. But remember that he won a very red state. Perhaps this can be a strategy - he is reaching out, and later can say he did so and is not a partisan hack. Might win more approval from moderates...

1) I'm sorry for our President with imperialist desires who wants to instigate authoritarian rule. 2) can we hope for the best, and still be friends and call us an ally? we still have a Congress that *might* step up if needed. 3) please plan for the worse. T is likely to try for 3rd term...😢

Ah yes, makes sense. I suspected it appeared visually closer than it's orbital radius but wasn't sure. Probably in front i am guessing, otherwise Europa would be just a dot, as if it was behind it would be much further away given that large orbital radius

Also curious, is it accurate that Europa in this image is at its furthest from Jupiter? (In other words, that x-distance visually seen in the image is its orbital radius?)

Beautiful. I'm interested in Earth and it's moon to compare/similar image. Searching Google images though it is seemingly hard to find one just like this, I thought Webb would have one like this looking back.

If you want inspiration to like Costco, check out the Acquired podcast on it and its history. I don't like some parts of the idea of Costco (which can lead to overconsumption) but the podcast made me feel the company is unique in a good way www.acquired.fm/episodes/cos...

As a parent, I'll apologize in advance if mine are not well corralled. It's tiring and expensive as hell being a parent, and Costco visits are one of the times I let them loose. They still have to track me down to get samples though (kids are not allowed) so don't worry, they are generally close by

this. well said. Thought experiment: if all money spent post-disasters was spent instead on preparedness, would it go further in preventing damage, and thus reduce overall suffering? (Even if at great cost to a few?)

IMO it is kinda cruel to form a grouping of "men".

I grew up in Alaska. The state voted heavily for Trump. While I understand the feelings of wishing she had more backbone, but this is politics. I think she can actually be counted on when the time is right.

So on this issue (and few to no others), if prices are higher for US consumers because other countries are willing to pay more than we are, it makes sense to sell it as LNG. Now the part that should but won't happen is part of of profits should help US consumers further abandon gas (heat pumps...)
April 18, 2025 at 4:28 AM
I am appalled by the vast majority of the actions of the Trumpies. However, this is a complex issue, but some things to consider: US consumers can fairly easily switch away from nat gas. European governments are still buying Russian gas. European governments face immense pressure to down costs.

I am of the opinion that Harris would not have won a proper primary. But even if that's not true and she did win one, she would have come out of one much stronger...
April 15, 2025 at 5:02 PM
The premise is flawed: we would never want to run the same election again. Democrats needed a proper primary vetting process. The lesson learned is no matter how late in an election cycle, a primary is necessary. Never anoint (it's against our principles anyway!)
