For sure. But right now all of them have a more urgent problem
January 4, 2026 at 11:49 PM
Really, being betrayed by Trump is not a surprise, but...

The high of people feeling that Chavismo is no more vs the low if this is confirmed and what we get is Chavismo but with Trump kinda doing like Cordyceps on it...
January 4, 2026 at 7:31 PM
If all of this ends up with Delcy Rodriguez running a pro-US administration, I'm probably going to have an aneurysm.
January 3, 2026 at 7:27 PM
Oh, great. Looks like the very complicated maneuver that could restore democracy in Venezuela got a tiny bit more unreal now.
January 3, 2026 at 6:55 PM
So, all this "the US is going to run Venezuela and slurp all the oil" and all that... how does it go? Is he going to kidnapp them one by one every weekend? What is the plan?
January 3, 2026 at 6:12 PM
As a Venezuelan (but one that left decades ago), the most inmediate problem I see is that Chavismo is still there.

Removing Maduro, ok, great, happy to see him suffer a bit of what he has made the country suffer.

The rest of the big PSUV bosses are still there.

What a change in the last 24 h, from Alta Guajira to La Carlota.
January 3, 2026 at 2:04 PM
Yea, Fuerte Tiuna is the most likely place for some. The rest seems to have been more or less military instalations, but there is always some risk.
January 3, 2026 at 2:03 PM
For sure. I've said the same many times.

I'm talking about what is coming first in the mind of people.

Imagine is 2050, JD Vance is president but not by being elected, and there is a similar bit of news.

Most of the world would be "WWIII!". Many Americans will be "ok, but good riddance"
January 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM
I dont know what is the likely outcome of invading Venezuela. I know it is not happening. Like, no long term US troop occupation (for now, and I think is not coming)

The likely outcome of kidnapping Maduro is some other Chavista keeps the dictatorship running.
January 3, 2026 at 1:40 PM
Depends on for whom.

My US social media is mostly anti-Trump and is rightly aghast at the whole illegality of things.

My Venezuelan social media is mostly anti-Chávez (but I purge the pro-Trump), and thee reaction is mainly "Ok, it is bad, but... is Chavismo over????"
January 3, 2026 at 1:31 PM
Do we have any more info about what was attacked, if anything, in Venezuela?

Cause all I read is Petro talking but he seems to be saying the warehouse fire in Maracaibo was it, and ... with what evidence?

Although naming the ELN in all that looks like saying hey, Trump, shoot them, not us.
January 1, 2026 at 10:26 AM
Ok, who screwed up the NTP config?
January 1, 2026 at 9:25 AM
I saw that anime! Lazarus. Not bad.

I mean, much better than this bullshit, for sure.
January 1, 2026 at 9:21 AM
Reporting from Venezuela is hard, but I dont think that an actual attack on an actual port would not have generated any kind of credible gossip at least.

And no reaction at all from the Chavistas?
December 30, 2025 at 8:33 PM
The most I've read from Venezuela is a private company doing a press release saying that the fire they had on one of their warehouse last 24th was just that, a fire, nothing to do with this, please stop the rumours.
December 30, 2025 at 8:32 PM
... arent they answering like they are on drugs by default?
December 26, 2025 at 8:05 PM
In El Salvador.

Although the ones in Venezuela are also incredibly awful, but under an unrelated administration.
December 23, 2025 at 3:43 PM
Bonus points: from a city you have never been.
December 23, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Well, buddy, if you didnt invade Ukraine in an "special operation" that was supposed to be just a few days, but managed to show the world the Russian Armed Forces are weaker and more incompetent than any of us suspected...
December 20, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Damnatio memoriae needs a comeback
December 19, 2025 at 5:02 PM
With the caveat that I've been out of Venezuela for decades now, what I read from people I think are realiable is that nobody speaks about any of that in Venezuela.

Not only because repression is at at all time high, but widespread fatalism and helplessness. Whatever it will be, it will be.
December 18, 2025 at 7:49 PM
Does this have anything to do with whatever is in the mind of the decrepit asshole in the White House?

Who knows.

Some US companies may still have some claim to some compensation, but not to any "oil" as theirs

Some of those are still asking for compensations.

And funny enough, the partnership with Russian and Chinese companies devolved into them demanding control of operations, as Chavista PDVSA was too corrupt and incompetent for them.
