There is a specific character process you can use with the cards to generate characters that are then perfectly suited to use with the Resolution deck or you can simply use it as a way of inspiring a character that you then design using your own favoured system

Typo: 5 key areas - not 6

For example, Fire could be interpreted as a 'What Happened' but there are so many other possibilities in the interpretation (you’re a fireman, or you have a power to make fire, or you participated in a firing squad, or you bear a burning desire for revenge, etc) that we have made it a Special card.

Special cards are the wildcards that introduce additional random elements that don't really have a home in any of the other categories. These cards can usually be interpreted in much wilder ways. They're both the hardest to interpret but also the ones most likely to give you an essential hook

Drawing Slow-witted doesn’t meet your character is stupid. They might be geniuses but seem distracted and not 'with it' because they’re calculating higher order maths in their head. Or it’s all a mask to stop people from bugging them. Or they’re brilliant academically but struggle with social cues.

First Impressions cards are intended to identify what people think of you the first time they meet you. It is important to recognise that this does not necessarily represent what you actually are! It's how people react to you on first meeting you. It's the 'vibe' that you give off.

For example, Massacre might mean everyone you know was massacred in some kind of attack. Or, maybe you witnessed a massacre whilst a soldier that changed your direction or outlook in life. Or perhaps you're a trader and massacred all of your competitors in a particular market? Let your mind loose!

What Happened cards are intended to identify a moment in your character's life that changed them or provided the focus and drive for them to do what they did in life. They could be interpreted very directly or can be much more subtle and tangential in their interpretation.

Cards are intended to be completely setting agnostic hence the slight vagueness of compass directions. Additional cards can be incorporated to make the system setting specific and if I do ever get to the point of publishing this then that is definitely a direction we will look into.

Drawing a Poor Background and a Wealthy Background could easily represent different key phases of the character's life. Similarly Somewhere to the East could be where you were born. Somewhere to the South could be where you discovered your destiny.

It is perfectly acceptable to draw more than one card when generating a character if it helps build a clearer picture (there aren't really any 'rules' at all) and this is a perfect example where seemingly conflicting cards should be embraced.

Others are about your circumstances (A wealthy background, Large Family, Spiritual Background, etc). These cards might not be about where you were born - they could represent the place you grew up, the place you consider your spiritual home or simply the place where you found yourself.

Where Am I From cards are intended to identify the character's origins. They may have moved on in life but this is where they started out. Some cards are purely geographical (Somewhere to the East/West/North/South, A City, etc)

Who Am I cards are intended to give a single summary of the core essential nature of your character. They include some very loose professional categories (Soldier, Student, Thief, etc) as well as other overarching defining titles (Cunning, Favoured, Generous, etc)

The cards prompt across 6 key areas: Who Am I? Where Am I From? What Happened? First Impressions, and Special. You draw at least one card from each set and let your mind do the rest. The human brain is brilliant at spotting patterns and drawing correlations and you're using the cards to trigger that

There are two sets of cards: Character Generation and Resolution. The Character Generation cards allow you to create any character you can conceive of and simply gives you the prompts you need to Spark your own imagination. No stats just descriptive.
