My first shiny in Legends Z-A was a random fletchling! I named him Autumn. It took me a full hour to figure out how to get to the building he spawned on. You can jump between buildings, btw!

I won't be posting any spoilers for Z-A! I got the game at a midnight release last night and played for about an hour on the way home. Loving it so far. Also picked up this adorable journal. I picked chikorita and named him Willow ❤️

Pokemon Y Day 44
Parading through Lumiose City and fighting AZ.
After beating Diantha she led us into a room where we entered my team into the Hall of Fame - “for all eternity.” The next day we met up in Lumiose City for a parade in our honor, organized by Professor Sycamore. He also rewarded us with the Honor of Kalos for defeating Team Flare. The festivities were interrupted by AZ who challenged me to a pokemon battle. He wanted to know what a trainer is. We beat his team and he expressed that he was now free of sorrow and had let go of the part of him that had built the ultimate weapon. As AZ let go of his past, his floette floated into his hands, now ready to join him again. AZ collapsed in joy. It returned to the man it knew.

In the final door we found fire-type master Malva in the Blazing Chamber. Starting off with Vanilla versus her pyroar - he almost took out the pyroar, but it knows wild charge, so we switched Shriek in before Vanilla could faint. Shriek poisoned the pyroar with toxic, but Malva used both full restores as Shriek tried to finish it off. Luckily, it kept trying to use hyper voice against Shriek’s soundproof, so she she managed to finish the pyroar. Next against talonflame, Shriek fainted and I sent in Garden. Talonflame almost knocked out Garden too, but he managed knock it out with discharge first. Next, Malva sent out torkoal, who knocked out Garden with earthquake before he could do much damage. I sent out Inkwell, who managed to knock it out with a couple waterfalls. For the final pokemon, chandelure, Inkwell almost fainted but managed to hang on with 1hp and knocked it out with waterfall. After beating the last elite four member, a doorway opened to the Radiant Chamber, where the champion of the league was waiting for us - Diantha. She started the battle and sent out hawlucha against Inkwell. Hawlucha used swords dance, Inkwell used ice beam, and then Diantha used a full restore. Inkwell used ice beam again, leaving hawlucha on low hp, but a boosted flying press finished Inkwell. Next I sent in Vanilla, who survived a poison jab and finished off the hawlucha with aerial ace. Next Diantha sent in aurorus, who tried to blizzard Vanilla but missed. Vanilla took out the aurorus with two turns of surf. Next against tyrantrum, Vanilla fainted from its head smash, so I sent in Garden. Garden’s play rough did a lot of damage, but Diantha used another full restore. Tyrantrum tried for another head smash, but Garden dodged it and finished the tyrantrum with another play rough. Goodra entered the battle next, and Garden managed to dodge again against its fire blast, taking out the Goodra with play rough. Next Diantha sent out her fifth pokemon, gourgeist, who had some back-and-forth with Garden before gourgeist finished Garden with seed bomb. Next I sent out Shriek, who crunched gourgeist to low hp. Diantha used a full restore again, and there was a little more back-and-forth between Shriek and the gorgeist before Shriek managed to take it out with crunch. Finally, Diantha sent out her mega-evolving gardevoir, who quickly knocked out Shriek with psychic. Next I sent in Ponderosa, who also mega evolved and used blizzard, taking mega gardevoir down to low hp before Ponderosa fainted from moonblast. At this point I sent in my final pokemon, who is also my first pokemon - Stranger. He was immediately hit by a shadow ball - putting him in the red for hp. Stranger used flamethrower and finished the gardevoir just in time, securing our win against Champion Diantha.

Pokemon Y Day 43
Beating the Kalos Pokemon League! I did writeups for each battle summarizing how it went. I wanted to do this for gym leader battles through my playthrough, but they were too easy to discuss. I was pretty under-leveled going into the league so it made for some interesting battles.
After stocking up on potions and fuelling with Poke Puffs, we entered the Kalos Pokemon League. Here are the levels and movesets of the team going in: Stranger the delphox. Level: 56. Item: Mind Plate. Moves: Psyshock, Will-o-Wisp, Psychic, Flamethrower. Vanilla the swanna. Level: 58. Item: Sky Plate. Moves: Aerial Ace, Surf, Fly, Hurricane. Shriek the exploud. Level: 58. Item: Leftovers. Moves: Toxic, Echoed Voice, Strength, Crunch. Garden the dedenne. Level: 59. Item: Sitrus Berry. Moves: Volt Switch, Play Rough, Parabolic Charge, Discharge. Inkwell the octillery. Level: 58. Item: Splash Plate. Moves: Psybeam, Ice Beam, Waterfall, Signal Beam. Ponderosa the abomasnow. Level: 56. Item: Abomasite. Moves: Frost Breath, Blizzard, Ingrain, Wood Hammer. Once inside the League, we were welcomed by Malva, who we recognized from the Holo Caster. We could choose what order to challenge the elite four, so we picked randomly and found ourselves in the Ironworks Chamber with the steel-type expert Wikstrom. He led with klefki and I sent out Garden, who quickly used volt switch so I could send in Stranger. The klefki was taken out by Stranger’s flamethrower. Next he sent out probopass, and I switched to Inkwell. Unfortunately, Inkwell was taken out by probopass’s discharge, which I really should have seen coming, as probopass often has electric-type moves. Inkwell managed to get enough damage onto probopass before fainting, which allowed Vanilla to come in and take out probopass’s remaining HP with surf. Next he sent out scizor, who barely managed to knock out Vanilla first. Next I sent Stranger back in, and he finished scizor with flamethrower. Wikstrom sent out his final pokemon, aegislash, who almost took out Stranger with shadow claw before falling to flamethrower. The first elite four member is defeated! The second door we chose led us to dragon-type master Drasna in the Dragonmark Chamber. We led with Garden and she led with a dragalge. Garden used volt switch to get away from the poison moves and I sent in Stranger to take care of things. Turns out the dragalge knows surf! But Stranger still managed to survive long enough to take it out. Next, she sent out altaria, who took out Stranger’s remaining health. I sent out Ponderosa and mega evolved her, taking out the altaria with blizzard. Next, she sent out noivern, who dropped Ponderosa with flamethrower. Garden came back out, noivern got his HP into the yellow, but Garden healed completely with his sitrus berry and cheek pouch. Garden then beat the noivern with play rough. Next, she sent out druddigon. Garden got one play rough in before the druddigon’s rough skin finished him. Next, I sent out Shreik, who almost finished druddigon but Drasna used a full restore, and druddigon finished Shriek as well. Finally I sent out Inkwell who finished the battle with ice beam. Next through the third door was the Flood Chamber with the water-type master Siebold. He started by sending out clawitzer versus Ponderosa. Ponderosa mega evolved, took a hit from clawitzer with minimal damage, and then dropped clawitzer with one hit from wood hammer. The recoil unfortunately took Ponderosa down as well. Next Siebold sent out Gyrados and I sent out Garden. One quick discharge from Garden finished gyrados. Garden didn’t stop there - he also dropped Siebold’s barbaracle with discharge (and some help from Ponderosa’s hail). Next Siebold sent out starmie.Garden would have finished it too, but the starmie’s psychic was too fast. I sent out Shriek, who finished the battle with a single crunch.

Pokemon Y Day 42
Fighting through Victory Road and getting to the Pokemon League.
On Victory Road we navigated through the caves and ruins. On the way through, we found Calem, who challenged us to a pokemon battle. This battle was a bit difficult because he was leveled higher than us. The MVP this time was Inkwell, who took out half his team with signal beam. We fully explored Victory Road with the help of Pride, while Stranger waited in the PC after gaining so many levels in the last few gyms. After catching all the new encounters, we were ready to enter the Pokemon League. After catching all the encounters possible on the way, our pokedex progress was: Central Kalos: 91 Coastal Kalos: 83 Mountain Kalos: 89

Pokemon Y Day 41
Exploring Route 22, going back for missed encounters, and entering Victory Road!
We explored all of Route 22, now accessible with waterfall. We also went back to Route 16, but found the waterfall portions did not get us to the part of the route with the missing encounters. We could have accessed that when we got strength, but didn't know it connected to Route 15. After catching all those missing encounters, we made our way to the pokemon league. The ace trainer at the gate made sure we had all 8 badges and then challenged us to a battle to make sure we were ready. We passed - and prepared for Victory Road!

Pokemon Y Day 40
Getting the eighth and final badge - the Iceberg Badge from the Snowbelle City gym.
We tried to go to the Snowbelle City gym, but the gym leader was missing. We headed to Route 20, the Winding Woods, to look for him. At the end of the woods we found him at the Pokemon Village, a flowery meadow full of pokemon. Wulric returned to the gym, after beating the trainers and catching the new encounters through the confusing woods, we joined him. The Snowbelle City gym has rotating paths of ice. Pokemon Y Day 39
Battling friends and arriving in Snowbelle City ❄️
We left Couriway Town and made it through the swampy Route 19, or Grande Valee Way. We battled Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna on the bridge. Fighting them back-to-back made it a bit more difficult, but a mega-evolved Ponderosa managed to finish them off. After the battle, Shauna gave us the HM for waterfall. We finished Route 19 by spending a looooong time trying to catch a rare super rod encounter - politoed. Watch out for perish song! In Snowbelle City, ‘a city of everlasting winter,’ we heard another verse of the song about the Kalos War in the pokemon center: One man, through it all, lives ever on. To a Pokemon once lost, he’s ever drawn.

Pokemon Y Day 38
Meeting up with Professor Sycamore in Couriway Town after beating Team Flare.
After cleaning up the mess from Team Flare, we spent some time resting and eating poke puffs. Then we carried on our journey, leaving for Route 18, Valee Etroite Way. There we caught the new pokemon and fought the trainers as usual. There is also a cave on Route 18 called Terminus Cave which has quite a few trainers and a couple of new pokemon to catch.  Next, we made it to Couriway Town - ‘a town connecting differences.’ There is a train that brings people here to see the beautiful waterfalls. Professor Sycamore met us here and challenged us to a battle. After we beat him, he expressed his regret that he never talked to Lysandre about his troubling world view. Sycamore certainly should have seen this coming.

Pokemon Y Day 37
Beating Team Flare and seeing Lysandre’s end.
We went to Lysandre's cafe in Lumiose City to see if we could locate Team Flare’s base. We battled the staff there and found the secret entrance to Lysandre Labs. There we encountered Lysandre, who said he has been trying to save the world with their profits from his lab, but was not able to because the world is too large. He decided the only way to save the world is to take it for himself. While navigating the labs, we again battled the Team Flare admins Aliana, Bryony, Celosia, and Mable, and received the elevator key. In the basement we found the giant man AZ. He told us his history with the ultimate weapon, and urged us not to use it. We fought another scientist, Xerosic, but couldn't stop Team Flare from unleashing the ultimate weapon. AZ was the king of kalos during the war 3000 years ago. During the war, AZ's beloved pokemon, floette, died. This caused AZ immense pain and anger, and he knew he had to bring Floette back, no matter what it takes. He built a machine to give it eternal life. But he didn't stop there. He was so overcome with grief and anger, he turned the machine into the ultimate weapon, destroying pokemon and ending the Kalos War. The stones in geosenge town hold these pokemon, and their life energy. Floette saw these acts committed by AZ, and left him. He has since wandered Kalos in anguish, forever looking for his floette. Lysandre’s End In Lysandre Labs, you can find a report that talks about Lysandre's past. When he was young, he traveled the Kalos region with his pokemon, hoping to make the world better. He was met with a world that needed more than he could give. Soured by the state of the world, he decided the only way to save it was to take it for himself. When we traveled to Geosenge Town, we found the ultimate weapon - a crystal flower erupted from the center of town. The Team Flare scientists studied the stones of Geosenge Town and discovered how to power the ultimate weapon. Pokemon in the stones were crying as the weapon took their life energy. In Team Flare's Secret HQ, we fought Lysandre and then other team members. They were desperate to stop us from reaching the ultimate weapon. At the bottom of the HQ we found the main source of the weapon’s power - Yveltal. We stopped the weapon and battled Yveltal - catching it before it could be used by Team Flare. Lysandre confronted us one last time to try to take back Yveltal - now wearing a cybernetic suit and mega evolving his Gyrados. Yveltal helped us stop him, but Lysandre fired the ultimate weapon anyway, destroying Team Flare's HQ and the ultimate weapon. Lysandre’s End In Lysandre Labs, you can find a report that talks about Lysandre's past. When he was young, he traveled the Kalos region with his pokemon, hoping to make the world better. Getting our 7th gym badge in Anistar City, and seeing the Anistar sundial!
After exploring the rest of Anistar City, we headed to the Anistar City gym, a beautiful starry maze. We beat Olympia's psychic type pokemon and had the chance to mega evolve Ponderosa for the first time. Olympia’s team: sigilyph, slowking, meowstic After our gym battle success, Lysandre called us on the Holo Caster. He revealed that he is the leader of Team Flare, and that they will be using the ultimate weapon to destroy everyone who isn't a part of their plans. Calem urged us to look for Team Flare's base to stop them. The Anistar City sundial.

Pokemon Y Day 35
Exploring Anistar City and learning more about Yveltal.
We made it to Anistar City - ‘the starry city marking the hours.’ There is a crystal structure in the center of town, now used as a sundial, that is said to come from outer space. Outside of the gym, Calem challenged us to a battle. Our team didn’t have any trouble defeating him - and Ponderosa evolved into an abomasnow! We explored the rest of Anistar City and learned more about the legendary pokemon, Yveltal, from a man there. They say during the Kalos War, Yveltal appeared and stole the life force of countless living beings, and then disappeared into its cocoon.

Riding a mamoswine through Route 17 and catching our new team member, Ponderosa the snover!
We went back to Lumiose City to access Route 16, which has a couple of new encounters. We can't access everything until we have waterfall, but we did find the fisherman who gave me the Super Rod. We then went back to previous routes where we could catch exclusive super rod encounters - this took a while, some are pretty rare. Finally, we went to Route 17, also called Mamoswine Road because you need to ride a mamoswine to get through the deep snow and icy rocks. We caught the ice pokemon in the area, including our new team member - a lax snover. I named her Ponderosa!

Stopping Team Flare in Frost Cavern!
North of Dendemille Town we explored the icy cave of Frost Cavern. There we found a mamoswine frightened about something in the cave. Trevor and I decided to investigate. At the end of Frost Cavern we found the source of the trouble was once again Team Flare. This time, Mable was the leader of the scheme. Team Flare was using their previously stolen poke balls to catch a powerful abomasnow. After defeating Team Flare, the abomasnow gave me an abomasite. We navigated out of the cavern, battling the remaining trainers and catching the new encounters.

Exploring Dendemille Town and learning about the legendary pokemon, Yveltal.
We finished catching the Route 15 encounters and then explored the Lost Hotel - which is hidden underground. We caught the pokemon there - including those that appear in the trash cans. When we got to Dendemille Town, we ran into Professor Sycamore. He told us about the legendary pokemon of Kalos, Yveltal. This pokemon absorbs energy, overwhelming people with its power. After its 1000 year lifespan, it seals all the spirits around it and goes to sleep in a secret place. Dendemille Town’s motto is ‘a town where fluff dances on the wind,’ referencing the huge windmill and snowy weather. The move deleter and move reminder can be found in a house here.

Exploring Route 15, where Shriek evolved into an exploud!
We left Laverre City to explore Route 15, or Brun Way. We started by fighting the trainers there - and Shriek evolved into an exploud! She is so big now. A backpacker told us about his encounter with Professor Sycamore in a cafe. Sycamore told him a story about a fairy type pokemon that saved the life of a king long ago. Lysandre called us on the Holo Caster to once again share his insights. He continually refers to me as a ‘chosen one.’ He insinuates that those who have the potential for great power are considered ‘chosen.’ What does he think a chosen one should do with this power?
