I had an old label maker that worked like that - you rotated the alphabet wheel and then squeezed a trigger to make an imprint on the label tape (which was super thick).

I’ve kept a succulent alive and thriving for 1.5 years - it needs to be pruned but I’m afraid to even look at it wrong in case my luck runs out!

Have you tried punch needle? It’s fun and super cathartic to stab the fabric over and over (like embroidery but with a bit more gusto)
