Today, my first bill, the Sexual Violence Policy Act, passed committee stage and third reading. We are one step away from it becoming law.

This legislation strengthens protections against sexual violence on public post-secondary campuses, so campuses across B.C. can become safer for all students.

I spoke with CKNW about the new legislation I introduced this week: the Sexual Violence Policy Act.

This legislation is about making BC’s post-secondary campuses safer for all and strengthening student consultation, increasing transparency, and ensuring policies are survivor-centred.

BIG DAY for Surrey students: the first provincially funded student housing is coming to Kwantlen Polytechnic University! Over 350 beds and a 161-seat dining hall will give students safe, affordable housing with more time to focus on their studies and less on their commute. @garrybeggbc.bsky.social

This week, I joined Stz’uminus First Nation to celebrate a milestone in Indigenous education. B.C. is investing $5.4M in First Nations-led, community-based teacher education, building local capacity and ensuring students can see themselves reflected in their learning.

Our government is expanding access to primary care by adding 65 new Nurse Practitioner training seats at UBC, UNBC, and UVIC.

With new seats now available throughout BC, students can train closer to home and serve their communities.

PS Dhir and I met with nonprofit and settlement sector leaders to discuss recent implementations within the International Credentials Recognition Act.

By removing barriers like Canadian work experience & repeat language testing, we’re helping foreign trained workers put their skills to work in BC.
