It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation.

I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!

So excited to bring this into the classroom for the first time tomorrow as students look through their own various reflections throughout the semester and then...reflect on those reflections!

(Could not have made this without help from @scandela9.bsky.social, either! 🙏)

I shared this article in Wisconsin last week... AMAZING, right? I listen to several books a month now because of my commute to campus, and I've come to love being read to. How about you? #booklove

There is nothing I enjoy more than students finding poems that they love and sharing them. Today kids found poems to bring them into the new year and shared with classmates. Thanks for the inspiration @jess5th.bsky.social

Your weight is neutral. So much of the number on the scale is out of your personal control. Attaching value to weight loss is a recipe for failure and self-loathing bc the data shows that weight almost always comes back.

Make HEALTH goals. Celebrate HEALTH victories.

I promise: it feels better.

My best new year assignment is asking students to pick a word that is IMMUTABLE about their personhood and study it as an aspirational word for the new year. Gonna use it again this year, only be more intentional about reflection! docs.google.com/presentation...

Love this emerging series—must-read, especially for ELA folks (including the "remix" of Marisa Thompson's TQE method that is offered in today's post)

So much to reflect forward with in this 🙏

Currently reading Laurie Halse Anderson’s REBELLION 1776. It’s phenomenal. Can’t stop turning pages. Book drops 4/1/25.

I could not get enough of this 2025 historical fiction novel-in-verse. Set in 1963 Pittsburg, 5th grader Cooper Dale is trying to find her place in the world while being one of the only Black students in a predominantly white school.

Book drops in January.
