What’s more, the right will attack any left economic program as radical/woke/socialist regardless of how carefully you distance yourself. This should be trivially obvious.

Mass incarceration is an economic issue. Housing discrimination is an economic issue. Healthcare disparities are economic.

The precarity, deindustrialization, and anemic economic access that are driving populist rage hit marginalized communities first—they were the canary in the coal mine.

Any viable left-populist economic coalition in a diverse polity has to include people whose economic exploitation is experienced through racialized and gendered forms.

You can’t ask them to bracket out those concerns as a precondition for solidarity that… just doesn’t make any goddamn sense.
