If someone makes a game out of a labor of love they should release it, there are ways, but the truth is that there is a lot of garbage flooding the market, and I'd rather see less of it in existence so that games made by people who know what they're doing can better flourish.

That sort of thing used to be called the Nintendo Seal of Quality. There were obviously still shite games that made it to NES but there was at least some kind of standard. What we see now is a digital version of the unfiltered wave of slop that brought Atari's empire down.

Yeah but how much of that is soaked up by Fortnite, CoD, Minecraft, Roblox, Destiny, Madden, and their ilk. Then factor in how much of that money lines executive pockets, and there isn't much left to go around to the other 19,900+. It's a broken system.

I don't care if the AAA sector crashes and burns, in fact I welcome it. However I do care about how reasonably an independent creator can expect to make a living from their craft and have the means to reinvest in their next project.

By industry, I refer to anyone making games in return for payment.

Isn't it though? There is only a finite amount of time, money, and energy to go around for playing video games, and we have almost reached the point where every human being with an interest in the hobby is already involved. The market won't bear much more than what we have.

It is typical for Western, christianized societies to try to make everything ultimately All About Them, or to force the notion that all women have to be some kind of mommy figure to them.

One wonders as well how the industry is supposed to be remotely sustainable or how anyone is supposed to to make a modicum of living from making games when the market is so perpetually flooded. Just a casual visit to any given eshop presents a staggeringly overwhelming array of choices.
