Time with friends in Alton, IL…

Adventures in the simulacrum…
On a recent trip, Jess doll and Steve doll stand in the middle of a cracked street in front of a pawn shop in Alton, Illinois. The black awning on the pawn shop reads “Diamonds. Gold. Sam’s Pawn Shop. Jewelry. Guns.” Above the awning, the top of the old building is made of dark bricks and features a row of front facing windows. A bright red truck is parked at an angle in front of the pawn shop and an American flag is seen on the building next to the red truck. To one side of the building, a wooden telephone pole/lamppost towers, extending its lines across a sky filled with the powerful storm clouds of midwestern springtime. Moments later: Lightning.
