Mercedes Hernandez gave a great presentation on the importance
of family support for #Latinx people experiencing serious mental illness. Family involvement is hugely influential in promoting recovery; however, few family members report receiving psychological support or psychoeducation. #SRP2025

Scott Sponheim kicked off #SRP2025 with an excellent talk on “time, brain, and #schizophrenia.” Neural oscillations are impacted in #psychosis and may be a treatment target for neuromodulation!

Brisbane, Australia gave us a warm welcome at the #OHBM2025 conference! Especially cool to see how other researchers are using machine-estimated “brain age” to explore the effects of stress, scarcity, and illness on accelerated aging/neurodegeneration.

This week, I was interviewed about my journey to #psychology research as part of a documentary to promote participation in #STEM.

I grew up without seeing women and LGBTQ+ people represented in science. So cool to help be the model for others that I didn’t have myself 🥹❤️ #SciComm

Specialized care is essential for recovery! First episode programs use coordinated care models to provide medication management, individual/family therapy, case management, peer support, & education/employment services. Ask your legislators to support funding for first episode bipolar (& psychosis!)

It was inspiring to shadow my clinical supervisor at the MN State Capitol yesterday! She testified along with @namicommunicate.bsky.social in favor of a mental health bill (SF 1953). This bill would fund treatment programs to support people experiencing their first episode of bipolar disorder.

A particular highlight of #StandUpForScience2025 was hearing @therealdrdukes.bsky.social speak. Science is strengthened by equity, inclusion, and justice. Now more than ever, we need to protect and empower the next generation of diverse scientists!

Being with fellow scientists and community members at the Minnesota #StandUpForScience2025 today provided a much-needed dose of hope. Science is for everyone and we are strongest together!

Thanks Dr. @craiganthonyrs.bsky.social for giving an excellent talk at UMN on methodological issues in LGBTQ+ mental health research! Minority stress and clinician bias don’t tell the whole story - we also need to evaluate how cis/heteronormativity shapes our definitions of “psychopathology.”

Attended a talk yesterday by our university’s disability resource center. In clinical psychology, we focus so much on the medical model of disability - I appreciated this review of the social model!
