Bit of a rare cam trap image- a Pileated Gibbon. Looks like a brave youngster exploring the forest floor. We heard gibbons at all our sites, which were near the Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary, even the isolated community forests that were surrounded by agriculture (e.g., cashew, rubber, cassava).

Haha, right before I saw this post I was just looking at this picture and thinking about how stressed (but happy) I probably was at the time.

My sister is really getting into birding and I love getting her texts about new backyard birds. In the last 24 hours she has identified a Yellow-headed Blackbird and Wilson’s Snipe in her backyard. Birding really is such a great way for people to connect with nature and their local wildlife!

Please enjoy watching this male long-tailed macaque playing with a bunch of babies. Daycare in the forest and the best baby sitter ever. Images are from one of our camera traps in the community forests of #Cambodia.

May go ahead and reread Cadillac Desert again. Would welcome similar reads that highlight Carter’s work in conservation.

How about a cat pretending to be a dog?

My watch finally got a chance to sync with Strava! Route of our first day getting camera traps set up at one of our Cambodia community forest sites (in Feb). Limited electricity in the field meant I gave up on charging my watch after this first day.

To celebrate my complete abandonment of the Voldemort site and my full commitment to this one, please enjoy the best bird pic I’ve ever taken- Green Broadbill, Borneo (Sabah, MY).

Taken during my dissertation research investigating bird comm responses to logging and frag.

Stay tuned for more!

Committed to moving over to this platform. Embarking on some cool fieldwork in Cambodia to assess the affect of forest governance (community forests) on biodiversity. Follow for updates from the field with (hopefully) cool pics! I also retweet cool science and science opportunities.

What’s the best gif to represent field work and why is it this one?
