What was your Chicago canon?

Honestly they should try to figure out how to automate the blue line with that money. There will be so much work for the operators on the others…

No that was Sophia King

Or what incremental capital project timelines might look like with additional funding (though this funding is mostly (?) operational and also capital funding comes from more sources?)

The growth budget seems like the least planned out of the three (at least in this document).

Would love to hear more *options* from CTA like:

- Cost of an increase to 8-minute service minimum (+ more on some lines)
- Cost of 6-minute service min
- Cost of all-day purple express

etc...

This on page 41 (51 of the PDF is the most substantive part for operations).

CTA Budget presents three scenarios, including one where they get additional funding. It isn't super precise but a decent starting point, and the most detail to come out publicly to date afaik:

Would love to see an ASTM audit of new buildings generally tbh. Curious even how many luxury high rises would pass. Genuinely have no idea!

Yeah…

Hard to argue that something market rate renters are paying up-market rents for shouldn’t be allowed by DOH

I also sorta wonder how impactful it will be - recalcitrant suburbs will have many levels to stop development, including just vanilla downzoning.

Plus things like whatever the suburban equivalent to ZBA, alley access ordinances, etc are

I sorta wonder if affordable developers are doing that on purpose if part of their $ is just a development fee percentage of the total?

Whereas they should just be churning out Hanna-type [laudatory] buildings?

Pretty sure it’s mostly about water connections and good drainage for turf/fields
November 1, 2025 at 6:28 PM
Ahhh interesting. So basically high rise code here is more than 7 stories?

Or would most 7 story buildings get included too?
November 1, 2025 at 4:00 PM
I thought that Chicago’s high-rise code comes in at 80’?

At least that’s what I’ve been told by developers?
November 1, 2025 at 3:56 PM
5 stories because you trigger non combustible construction requirements above 5 stories. Can’t do masonry/wood construction at 6 stories in Chicago.

Maybe there’s some anchoring from the 50% parking reduction? Or the ability to package variations in with a type 1 zoning change?

Wait which article is this from?
October 16, 2025 at 4:20 AM
30-day pass?

I mean this is probably a CDOT/CTA issue for sure TBH which is a huge point against what I’m saying (would still be a big *time* savings though on getting work started).
