DAY 11: The Shots You Take - Rachel Reid

I've been a fan of Rachel Reid's works for years now, and I feel like this latest work is a crowning achievement. A conversation about grief, about identity, about the sports industry, wrapped up in a genuinely lovely romance.

DAY 10: A Psalm for the Wild-Built - Becky Chambers

This book made me feel GOOD. And inspired. A stunning rumination on humanity and our place in the world and nature. Optimistic! Imagine!

DAY 9: Compound Fracture - Andrew Joseph White

My fav AJW novel so far. I love the way he writes horror, especially in the YA space; working within the limits of the age range and genre to create works that are so teeth-clenchingly tense.

DAY 8: A Strange and Stubborn Endurance - Foz Meadows

This novel - and it's sequel - are such strong fantasy novels that utilize queer identity in a way that's interesting and relevant to the plot, and to our society.

DAY 7: The Summer Hikaru Died - Mokumokuren

While it's definitely horror first, this manga is - in my opinion - definitely queer. I'm so incredible excited for the anime adaptation coming next month.

DAY 6: These Violent Delights - Micah Nemerever

Obsession, codependence, yearning, desire, toxicity, affection. Chaotic and flawed characters gnashing their teeth at each other (emotionally).

DAY 5: Don't Let the Forest In - C.G. Drews

This was my book of the year for 2024 because it so perfectly encapsulates the messy queer love that I so adore. Plus ace representation that's complex and a little grungy.

DAY 4: You Should Be So Lucky - Cat Sebastian

Queer romance, set in the past, realistic portrayal of the difficulties of the time without being hopeless, heart wrenching depiction of grief. I loved this so much.

DAY 3: The Starless Sea - Erin Morgenstern

A lyrical fantasy that’s so whimsical and unique, fairy-tale-esque even. It’s such a love letter to story telling, and I deeply adore it.

DAY 2: Summer Sons - Lee Mandelo

What if you took The Fast & The Furious and then made it gay and a Southern Gothic with threads of messy romance? This novel is so, SO for me it's silly.

DAY 1: Icarus - K. Ancrum

A stunning YA story about star-crossed queer love and the burdens we inherit from our family. This was one of my top books last year and I’ll scream about it any chance I get.

But also, I finished my first draft! This is the longest thing I’ve ever written, and I’ve now completed two versions of the first draft of this novel. It’s absolutely an accomplishment, in spite of what my brain wants me to think.

This is TOO CUTE 😭

Honestly, it’s not. I think it missed the mark in a few crucial parts, and also it came out when people had an abundance of time, so they played way more per day than they would’ve otherwise.
