Today has been long but inspiring. I've been up since 4:30am to work with colleagues in the Asia-Pacific time zone, I've welcomed new team members, planned research and worked with collaborators on three different projects. Poe cat says that's enough for today. Kibble, cuddled and 🧶 await.

After almost a month without access to the woods, I finally got back in today. Two hours reading about indigenous knowledge whilst surrounded by the smell of moss and sounds of branches swaying in the wind. This is how such texts are meant to be read. Lovely ❄️ #reading #Nature #MoreThanHuman

Not really social media inspiring but I'm back at my desk! Finally able to walk up the stairs after my leg operation. I also keep turning up late to zoom meetings because I'm getting too engrossed in writing. Not a bad problem to have but it is still a problem. I'm working on it. #AcademicSky #Book

As a first gen student who self funded her PhD whilst working, it's moments like these that hit home how far I've come. I'm reading a chapter for a reading group on paid time. I'm not fitting it in on the commute to my day job. I'm reading it as my job. Wow! #AcademicSky #FirstGen #LittleThings

This week I delivered several samples of pre-digested coffee beans to the lab for microbial, chemical and fatty acid testing. This will feed into the #Humancoffee project - an art-science problematization of #civetcoffee and #naturecommodification Watch this space! 👀

I've never been more excited to sit in a car park. Cabin fever has been setting in with the post-op recovery. Today I got to read a chapter in the car whilst my partner walked the dog after my doctors apt. So nice to see autumn shades! #AcademicSky #Reading #Recovery

Finally, after 14 months of chronic pain and mobility issues I've had the metal removed ❤️🩹 1 day post surgery and I'm already in less pain than before the op. #DogStrike #Trauma #ThanksNHS

I had the best time at the Asia for Animals Conference 2025 this past week. I spoke about #civetcoffee and the work of #TheCivetProjectFoundation to work with large tourism providers to stop the promotion and sale of civet coffee tours. #kopiluwak #civets #conservation #animalwelfare

Yesterday I met an Elephant hawk moth caterpillar. I was immediately taken back to my lectures on Batesian mimicry- look at those magnificent "eyes"! #SussexWalks #NatureSky

Just found #CatsofAcademia and now must, naturally, introduce Poe- my office manager. She is particularly concerned with staff wellbeing. She will stop my screen use by walking in front of my screen every hour and onto my keyboard if I haven't stood up and walked around in a while. 10/10 recommend.

Really enjoying my latest read- Theory of Water by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson. Her writing is thoughtful and poignant and is helping me better consider the capital roots of my cultural upbringing and why I've always felt out of place within it. Highly recommend. #reading #AcademicSky #Decolonise
