I am a lot of things

“If you want to make a stand, help others make a stand. If you want to reach your goal, help others reach their goal. Consider yourself and treat others accordingly. This is the way of Humanity.” - Confucius
Neil Young recently turned 80! Tonight I’m spinning one of his greatest records: After the Gold Rush

We saw the brilliant British pianist Paul Lewis at Princeton‘a Richardson Auditorium Thursday. If you haven’t heard his Schubert or Beethoven, do! Utterly transcendent!

I do love autumn. So good they gave it two names!

Filming day in Metuchen! Classical guitar (me) and violin and cello. Piazzolla, Beatles, and Bach.

I just went to a vibrant Union county rally with Senators Kim AND Booker. Dems out door knocking all over our communities This weekend. I put out lots of signs. Dems are anxious (why I don’t get) but if it spurs work and over effort, good.

almost every damn sign I saw was homemade. I made this one. Took a half hour and I loved every minute of it.

Crisp, chilly autumn day. Sometimes the weather calls for simple, but delicious, homemade white bread. Today is one of those days.

What’s your favorite autumn 🍂 music? One musician I go to every grey, cool, melancholy fall day is Nico. She seems to come alive on such days.

Jersey shore bozos fly this rubbish (especially the really rich shore towns - saw this today). I’d say, if the fascist flab is still kicking and they try this, then Obama runs and whoops his ass. And he would.

The older I get, the more I appreciate Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. A commentary on how political feuds going back years consume and destroy the most innocent: the young. A profound performance at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, this past Sunday.

What a week! Wednesday saw Ken Burns for a talk on his new film, The American Revolution (with clips of the NJ parts of the war). Last night, saw a stunningly brilliant 80 y/o Eric Clapton at Madison Square Garden.

Went to the splendid Met Museum today. (Every few Sundays - almost a spiritual ritual.) I limit myself to only 2 or 3 photos. Here are two that moved me particularly: a 1925 rayograph by Man Ray, and Jean-Francois Millet’s « Autumn Landscape with a Flock of Turkeys. » (1872-73)

Need a summer reading recommendation? Evelyn Waugh’s Men at Arms is a splendid one. I’ve read few writers who waste not a word. He also keenly understands humans and the various ways we try to deal with the ominous unknown.

I missed Jerry Garcia’s 30th anniversary death date by a few days. He was one of my musical and cosmic heroes. I remember the moment he died. I saved the Rolling Stone magazine memorial issue.

When people ask who’s my favorite songwriter, it’s an easy answer: Gordon Lightfoot! Every song is a miniature novel - elegant, unpretentious, delicately crafted, natural flowing. (This Sunday’s vinyl)
