St Helen's Wharf, literally around the corner from here, is already a (poorly marked) contraflow cycle lane!

In what way was the driver awful?

Had a decent experience with motorway. They inspect the vehicle, haggle and then if you're happy with the haggling drive it away.

How does it conflict with other government guidance?

Traffic modelling according to my local planning authority when I've questioned them on why smthg didn't follow LTN 1/20 guidance

if my local council's planning dept is any guide, I very much doubt that good infrastructure will be delivered. Sure, that new bike lane on the new estate is nice... but not when you never have priority at any junction or it randomly stops and makes you cross to the other side!

condolences on your loss.

Did you ask the council representatives why they did it this way? Not sure if this road would be a county or district council matter. Do you know?

Tried this out recently. Disappointing that again cars have priority at every junction/roundabout.

A wonderful christmas to the clarion too! Enjoyed your output this year (the long reads and live tweeting the council meetings in particular) and look forward to reading what you come up with next year.

Hard agree. @oxfordclarion.bsky.social provide excellent local journalism.

I imagine it was quite breezy up there today!

Curious if you have a source for this assertion? I struggle to see how planning and design is a substantial overhead for the large developers relative to everything else
December 8, 2024 at 12:32 PM
i'm no expert in this but instinctively I would have thought the cost of planning and design is small relative to the cost of the land, building materials and labour involved in a development
December 8, 2024 at 12:22 PM
how does covering the costs of developments planned but not built add a third to the cost of a house they are already building? Wouldn't any unanticpated costs of a future dev not be factored into the prices of those future houses not the current ones?
