www.nytimes.com/2025/04/13/w... The most important point here is not mentioned. After the Brexit vote the Brits had two years to walk back from what was ever more obviously disaster. That it didn’t happen was an abject failure of the British ruling class. That’s where we are. Not easy but not done.
How Brexit, a Startling Act of Economic Self-Harm, Foreshadowed Trump’s Tariffs
Britain’s decision to leave the European Union in 2016 was sold to voters as a magic bullet that would revitalize the country’s economy. Its impact is still reverberating.

I need to post about an outrageous thread on X: x.com/adamoxsen/st...
This claims a great discovery that Trump's tariff war is actually a massive redistributon of wealth from corporations to the population. The logic is of course backwards & standard Republican fare. There are more such truths too.
Adam Oxsen on X: "Billionaire investor Chamath Palihapitiya’s interview with Andrew Schulz just went viral. He exposed the truth about Trump’s tariffs: It's more than a trade war...he's completely redistributing American wealth. Here are the untold secrets of the President's $750B gamble: 🧵 https://t.co/V8kdFd5v8t" / X

There is a logic behind the tariffs. The goal has always been to pass the crony tax cuts. That bill is coming up, and they want to pull a fast one: avoid the parliamentarian and hide the $4.5T deficit. The tariffs are a distraction. Our problem isn't inequality--it's Madagasgar.

One clear and unfortunate fact: This used to be the country where the best and brightest from thoughout the world would come to build success.

Now no such person in his right mind would come here to worry about being picked up for no reason and with no recourse.

An important bit of arithmetic. Trump’s firings at the IRS are estimated to amount to $500 billion in yearly lost revenue. That isn’t going to people with W2’s, it’s going to people with accountants and lawyers to hide income—the same people who will benefit under Trump’s $4.5 T tax cuts.

The Gen X Career Meltdown www.nytimes.com/interactive/... Articles like this make the problem seem specific & limited. AI and robotics aren’t, as is already apparent. The last thing we need is a regime out to destroy business regulation and the public sector. Musk's viciousness is coming for all.

www.nytimes.com/2025/03/08/w... Any such article should recognize that there was no option to end the Gaza war ahead of the US election (and that Trump also required some
kind of October surprise).
Gaza War Led to Deaths of More Than 3 Dozen Hostages, Officials Say
Israel’s leaders promised that their military campaign in Gaza would help save the lives of hostages. At least 41 have died in captivity, some killed by Hamas and others in Israeli airstrikes.

@NYTimes. This is still not a good enough article; too little emphasis on the winds. Santa Ana winds have been around forever, but not with 90 mph gusts. Normal fire preparations are like child’s toys. That’s what climate change does.
The California Wildfires Are the Latest Disaster Supercharged by Climate Change
Extreme weather events — deadly heat waves, floods, fires and hurricanes — are the consequences of a warming planet, scientists say.
