I will acknowledge that I would not be approaching things the same way if I was at a public university in the Fifth Circuit. I can be confident that I am reasonably well protected here in the Fourth. That's not true in the Fifth. And we'll find out whether it's true in the Eleventh (eventually).

Where is bear patrol when you need them? Obviously, one cat won't work. But has the homeowner considered adopting another 30 or 40 cats? I have to think at some point, your cat crew becomes large enough to overwhelm the bear with sheer force of numbers.

That's my perspective. I'm very familiar with Fourth Circuit case law. I have no interest in breaking rules or acting out. I want to do right by my students. But if push comes to shove, I'll stand on my rights.
