I make some stuff with code + LLMs / indiehacking

Interested in tech, modern propaganda, and cleaning up information spaces
I rarely see people working on disinfo putting enough emphasis on the role of industry.

Disinformation is PR. The petrochemical industry has been doing this for decades in traditional media.

Social media is just the latest theatre of operation.

It's not all "rogue" states and politics.

When I'm feeling low, I play a lot of chess.

I've spent hundreds of hours watching and learning from Daniel Naroditsky

Kind of like losing a friend you've never met.

RIP 💔

"Why does Europe have no tech giants..."
NVIDIA and OpenAi:

Concerns that their “increasingly complex and interconnected web of business transactions is artificially propping up the trillion-dollar AI boom.“

The best thing about us collectively making a "football field" a modern introduction to the imperial system of measurement is that British and American "football fields" aren't even the same size

For years now, everything the Tony Blair Institute has been putting out has smelt off.

Exceptional work from @petergeoghegan.bsky.social

Someone submitted a vulnerability report to cUrl "confirmed" by a code snippet that doesn't even call cUrl.

They then responded with "sorry you're right, would you like me to sumbit a new report that actually calls cUrl?

Vibe coded reports... so depressing

We need an infrastructure that lets you take packaging back to the supermarket where it will be reused as is.

Many countries have this for glass beer bottles.

Every piece of packaging should be this way.

begging the question why did the privacy and security need to be enhanced
NEW: Oxford will be the first UK university to give all staff and students free ChatGPT Edu access, from this academic year.

ChatGPT Edu is built for education, with enhanced privacy and security.

Way too much emphasis is put on disinformation from state level actors relative to industry ones

I guess because when russia does it, it's a kind of espionage. When Exxon Mobil do it, it's "just" PR

Charlie Kirk was a fossil fuel industry plant
Big Oil's money gave Kirk a larger platform to spread baseless climate conspiracy theories—as well as other extremist views.

I don't want to be a hater but I think we're going to regret building EVERYTHING with python

and I like python

Call me illiberal but I don't see why you should be allowed to hang around universities rage baiting 20 year olds to make YouTube clips

Free speech doesn't mean freedom to film rage bait

I realised yesterday it's been several years since I used a debugger

I think it's a combination of getting better at visualising loops and recursion and strong typing becoming fashionable

Mostly the latter

You just don't need to keep track of changes so much any more

Proud to say that I barely know who Charlie Kirk is.

That's all.

Release the Epstein Files.

Has the entire industry just decided it doesn't care about leaking secret keys in context windows to AI companies?
September 4, 2025 at 12:46 PM
I actually don't know how to not leak secret keys to anthropic/openai etc when using agentic coding tools

I'm not even sure it's possible to prevent them being included in contexts

And you forget this so quickly when they are part of your workflow

One of the most interesting things I've learnt recently is that the oil industry is ramping up petrochemical production in order to offset drops in fossil fuel demand

Expect massive increase in disinformation campaigns pushing tales of "green" plastics and ammonia based fuels in the next few years

Paul Graham thinks some nerd is out there producing like 2.5 million lines of code a year 🤣

Like, what does he think the guy is making?

It's always the CEO who declares a pivot to AI and everyone has to be fired for some reason

Never the CTO

No idea why. Who could possibly say

Hippies are mean people pretending to be nice

Goths are nice people pretending to be mean

I don't know who said it first, but I think about this a lot.

It's also true about surfers and punks.

MAGA accounts on facebook have gone absolutely horseshoe over Iran.

"No more foreign wars" was a major part of Trump's appeal to his base, and they are really having a day over this.

Obviously, Israel is the Villain, not Trump

Big report out on climate misinfo

The TL;DR - Professional campaigns of lies pushed online have been catastrophic in combating climate change.

Big oil, petrostates employing PR firms and even more sinister operations have driven the debate for years
