I'm generally a fan of them finding uses for things that would otherwise be wasted, but it's weird so many people buy it as expensive supplements rather than as basic gelatin.

That's surprising. I've seen it quoted by non-online friends, and a lot on the less-technical spaces online: Threads (where I follow mainly photographers), local Facebook group (improv/artist), and family

It seemed to spread a lot as a story among "normal" people somehow

I'm not American either. Definitely frustrating viewing this from afar.

Happy for you to hate who you hate, just feel like we have bigger fish to target :)

I read that back in Nov as him being critical of it as a strategy — people saying "don't vote for trump as you'll get musk", yet the general public didn't dislike Musk very strongly at the time.

Looking at his x feed right now it's 100% critical of trump/musk. "Resistance" etc.

I thought Amazon was feeling the heat from discount Chinese retailers, wouldn't this help them?

We don't need to trust them — their papers are open and people have roughly reproduced the efficiencies.

But deepseek are forward in their paper that this is number is *only* the gpu-time cost of the final run.

It doesn't count dev runs, or their ~$2billion infra cost, or staff...

Can you expand? I thought OpenAI was still losing money overall (ie. for its investors)

They already do deliver things, admittedly.

The 500bill is mostly for inference costs (people using the model, not training it).

Deepseek has an estimated 2billion in infrastructure and has already had to pause signups. It's going to take a *lot* of hardware to serve the whole population with AI.
