labelling everything as “gun” violence allows people to ignore the horrors wrought by the war on drugs, the maintenance of poverty under capitalism, the exacerbation of reactionary ideology and the mental health crisis, all of which are the leading actual causes of “gun” violence.

this is NOT to say gun violence isn’t concerning. but then, “gun violence” is just a discursive tool to disguise the actual forms of violence. by grouping them all under one label instead of actually reckoning with their causes it placates the moderate’s mindset

there has never been a benign form of gun control. all gun laws exist to turn the state’s arms supremacy into a monopoly, entrenching itself as permanently as it can. if you view the state as a neutral or even positive force, i can’t convince you this is bad. but don’t call yourself a leftist if so.

the whole point is that shit like this just proves leftist 2A supporters have been right the whole time. we already saw this in the 1960s brady bill, designed to stop black panthers from open carrying (the whole point of which was to hold the police to account and stop them abusing their powers!)
